The Trusted General Manager And Unit Performance: Empirical Evidence Of A Competitive Advantage, James H. Davis, F. David Schoorman, Roger C. Mayer, Hwee Hoon Tan

Employee trust for the general manager is proposed as an internal organizational characteristic that provides a competitive advantage for the firm. This paper empirically examines the relationship between trust for a business unit's general manager and organizational performance. Trust was found to be significantly related to sales, profits and employee turnover in the restaurant industry. Managers who were either more or less trusted differed significantly in perceptions of their ability, benevolence and integrity.

This paper attempts to explain the fact that the annual budget serves three important purposes, namely; as a tool for accountability and transparency; as a tool of management, and as an instrument of economic policy. The purpose of this research was to investigate the effects of training and feedback format on reactions to in-basket feedback and on in-basket performance. Performance was evaluated with a 2 (Training) x 3 (Feedback) x 2 (In-Basket) x 5 (Dimension) repeated measures factorial design. Reactions were evaluated with a 2 (Training) x 3 (Feedback) x 2 (Questionnaire) repeated measures factorial design. The Training factor was comprised of frame-of-reference training (designed to prepare the recipient to receive the feedback) and a control condition (a lecture on Mintzberg's managerial role classification system). ABSTRACT
In many organizations, similar operations are carried out at different locations. This is certainly true of plant operations, and for many corporations, is also true for their business offices. For example, in the AT&T System, the everyday contact with customers is performed in approximately twenty-one hundred different business office locations. These offices all perform very similar work functions. Other organizations such as the utilities and various government agencies also have this characteristic in that many different office locations perform essentially the same work tasks.
