Messianic Movements And Failed Prophecies In Israel - Five Case Studies, Motti Inbari
Messianic Movements And Failed Prophecies In Israel - Five Case Studies, Motti Inbari
Motti Inbari Dr.
This article examines several examples of messianic individuals and movements in Israel that have had to confront the failure of their predictions of imminent collective Redemption. These case studies suggest that individuals who expect Messiah’s immediate coming, but who do not share this conviction with others, may experience greater freedom to reinterpret their prophecy and then proselytize a new vision of Redemption. When a small group’s predictions are publicized widely and then fail, its members may find themselves facing a particularly sharp crisis of faith because of social pressure and may decide to abandon both the prophecy and group membership. …
Power, Conflict And Resistance: Social Movements, Networks And Hierarchies, Athina Karatzogianni, Andrew Robinson
Power, Conflict And Resistance: Social Movements, Networks And Hierarchies, Athina Karatzogianni, Andrew Robinson
Athina Karatzogianni
Drawing on theory by Deleuze and others on the structure of hierarchies and networks, the authors seek to reinterpret World Systems Theory in order to engage with issues of power, resistance, and conflict in the contemporary world. The authors engage with the world-systems, contemporary scholarship in global politics, and new concepts: global cities, bifurcations, hegemonic transitions, the relationship between capitalism and the state, the position of East Asia, active and reactive network movements. They develop new theory to interpret empirical cases of resistance and conflict including: Afghanistan, Iraq, anti-terror paranoia, political Islam, specific indigenous and activist movements

My Work And Foucault's Genius: Foucault, Barthes, Said, Paul J. Rich
Paul J. Rich
Recent comparison of some of my work to that of Foucault is really a huge exaggeration of its importance but does point to a point that Foucault made, which is that research into small or obscure topics can have a high yield in terms of insight. Critics for example are interested in the role I have explored of Freemasonry in education.

Managing Organizational Change: Leadership, Tesco, And Leahy's Resignatio, Uzoechi Nwagbara
Managing Organizational Change: Leadership, Tesco, And Leahy's Resignatio, Uzoechi Nwagbara
Dr Uzoechi Nwagbara
The central issues here are the consequences and the impacts of the announcement of the resignation of Sir Terry Leahy, the CEO of Tesco, from the organisation in March 2011. The announcement on the 8 th of June 2010 that Leahy, Tesco’s chief executive officer and one of Britain’s most respected businessmen, would be retiring after transforming the organisation into the world’s third biggest retailer, has generated a groundswell of reactions. The impact of this change, as well as how to manage the change resulting from his resignation is part of the concern of this report. Another concern of this …
Towards A Paradigm Shift In The Niger Delta: Transformational Leadership Change In The Era Of Post Amnesty Deal, Uzoechi Nwagbara
Towards A Paradigm Shift In The Niger Delta: Transformational Leadership Change In The Era Of Post Amnesty Deal, Uzoechi Nwagbara
Dr Uzoechi Nwagbara
Since the 6 th of August 2009 when the implementation of the amnesty initiative started, there have been reported cases of politicisation of the programme, loss of faith in the regime’s leadership style to drive real change, doubts about the presidency’s intentions and further militarisation of the region’s public space among other contentious issues. The Amnesty deal reached between the Nigerian federal government and the oil producing states, which was brokered by President Yar ‘Adua has been considered a mere ruse, a charade rather than a commitment to changing the culture of business as usual in the region. This paper …
Subsidiarity: Challenging The Top Down Bias, Scott Kelley
Subsidiarity: Challenging The Top Down Bias, Scott Kelley
Scott Kelley
Global poverty has received significant attention in the past decade, particularly after the adoption of the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goals in 2002. Commentators and ethicists like Peter Singer have long held that the wealthy of the world have an obligation to help the poor. While the sentiments may be positive, there are real harms that have come from this kind of top down thinking. Subsidiarity, to the contrary, is a much more realistic and morally tenable approach to global poverty.

Ockham's theory may well be the most influential medieval predecessor of contemporary theories of human rights. We suggest that it was also in a better condition than its descendants.

You Can’T Be Nonviolent Without Violence: The Rainbow Family’S Nonkilling Nomadic Utopia And Its Survival Of Persistent State Violence, Michael I. Niman Ph.D.
You Can’T Be Nonviolent Without Violence: The Rainbow Family’S Nonkilling Nomadic Utopia And Its Survival Of Persistent State Violence, Michael I. Niman Ph.D.
Michael I Niman Ph.D.
Since 1972, the Rainbow Family of Living Light, a nonhierarchical nomadic community, has been holding large temporary gatherings in remote forests around the world to pray for world peace and to create a model of a functioning utopian society. Wherever and whenever they gather, the temporary Rainbow city remains essentially unchanged, modeling what anarchist theorist Hakim Bey calls the Temporary Autonomous Zone (TAZ). Revolutions, Bey writes, seek permanent change and, in doing so, lead to violence and martyrdom. Revolutionaries aim to hold territory. The TAZ, by contrast, does not directly engage the state, but instead “liberates an area (of land, …

The Political Tsunami: Not All Death And Destruction Is Natural, Michael I. Niman Ph.D.
Michael I Niman Ph.D.
Unlike many disasters that befall the Third and Fourth Worlds, the 2004 Tsunami was both large and unique enough to dominate the western press. The stories in the mainstream media, however, were rather simplistic, sticking to a feel good script of nations uniting to offer aid to the tidal wave’s unfortunate victims. Meanwhile, without much media attention, the Indonesian government used the cover of the Tsunami and the ensuing relief efforts, to intensify its war against rebels in its break-away Ache province – which suffered from the brunt of the Tsunami. Also ignored by the western mass media, was the …
XXI

Direito, Utopia E Insularidade, Paulo Ferreira Da Cunha
Virtude Da Constituição E Virtudes Republicanas, Paulo Ferreira Da Cunha
Virtude Da Constituição E Virtudes Republicanas, Paulo Ferreira Da Cunha

Instituições, Trabalho E Pessoas, Paulo Ferreira Da Cunha
