We present a measurement of pp̅ →Zɤ→ℓ+-ɤ(ℓ=e, µ) production with a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6.2 fb-1 collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron pp Collider. The results of the electron and muon channels are combined, and we measure the total production cross section and the differential cross section dσ/dpɤT, where pɤT is the momentum of the photon in the plane transverse to the beam line. The results obtained are consistent with the standard model predictions from next-to-leading order calculations. We use the ...

Kenneth Bloom Publications

The result of a search for heavy long-lived charged particles produced in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV at the LHC is described. The data sample has been collected using the CMS detector and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb−1. The inner tracking detectors are used to define a sample of events containing tracks with high momentum and high ionization energy loss. A second sample of events, which have high-momentum tracks satisfying muon identification requirements in addition to meeting high-ionization and long time-of-flight requirements, is analyzed independently. In both cases, the results are consistent with the ...

A search for a Higgs boson decaying into two photons is described. The analysis is performed using a dataset recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC from pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, which corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.8 fb−1. Limits are set on the cross section of the standard model Higgs boson decaying to two photons. The expected exclusion limit at 95% confidence level is between 1.4 and 2.4 times the standard model cross section in the mass range between 110 and 150 GeV. The analysis of the data ...

Results are presented from a search for large, extra spatial dimensions in events with either two isolated muons or two isolated electrons. The data are from proton–proton interactions at √s = 7 TeV collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. The size of the data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of approximately 2 fb−1. The observed dimuon and dielectron mass spectra are found to be consistent with standard-model expectations. Depending on the number of extra dimensions, the 95% confidence level limits from the combined μμ and ee channels range from Ms > 2.4 TeV to M ...

Claes, Aaron Dominguez, Michael Eads, P. Jindal, J. Keller, Ilya Kravchenko, Jose Lazo-Flores, Helena Malbouisson, Sudhir Malik, Gregory Snow

Isolated photon production is measured in proton–proton and lead–lead collisions at nucleon–nucleon centre-of-mass energies of 2.76 TeV in the pseudorapidity range |η| < 1.44 and transverse energies ET between 20 and 80 GeV with the CMS detector at the LHC. The measured ET spectra are found to be in good agreement with next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD predictions. The ratio of PbPb to pp isolated photon ET -differential yields, scaled by the number of incoherent nucleon–nucleon collisions, is consistent with unity for all PbPb reaction centralities.

A search for narrow, high-mass resonances decaying to electron or muon pairs has been performed using pp collision data collected at √s = 7 TeV by the CMS experiment in 2011. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of approximately 5 fb−1. The event yields observed in the signal regions are consistent with predictions of the standard model backgrounds, and upper limits on the cross section times branching fraction for a resonance decaying to dileptons are extracted from a shape analysis of the dilepton invariant mass distribution. The resulting mass limits at 95% confidence level are 2330 GeV for ...

A search is performed for heavy Majorana neutrinos (N) using an event signature defined by two samesign charged leptons of the same flavour and two jets. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.98 fb−1 of pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV collected with the CMS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. No excess of events is observed beyond the expected standard model background and therefore upper limits are set on the square of the mixing parameter, |VℓN|2, for ℓ = e,μ, as a function of heavy Majorana-neutrino mass. These are the ...

Kenneth Bloom Publications

A search is performed for heavy particle pairs produced in √s= 7 TeV proton-proton collisions with 35 pb-1 of data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The search is sensitive to squarks and gluinos of generic supersymmetry models, provided they are kinematically accessible, with minimal assumptions on properties of the lightest superpartner particle. The kinematic consistency of the selected events is tested against the hypothesis of heavy particle pair production using the dimensionless razor variable R, related to the missing transverse energy Emiss T . The new physics signal is characterized by a broad peak in the ...

The four-lepton mass distribution is consistent with the expectation of standard model background ...

The dijet momentum balance and angular correlations are studied as a function of collision centrality and leading jet transverse momentum. For the most peripheral PbPb collisions, good agreement of the dijet momentum balance distributions with pp data and reference calculations at the ...

A measurement is presented of W-boson production in PbPb collisions carried out at a nucleon–nucleon (NN) centre-of-mass energy √sNN of 2.76 TeV at the LHC using the CMS detector. In data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.3 μb−1, the number of W → μνμ decays is extracted in the region of muon pseudorapidity |ημ| < 2.1 and transverse momentum pμT > 25 GeV/c. Yields of muons found per unit of pseudorapidity correspond to (159 ± 10(stat.) ± 12(syst.)) × 10−8 W+ and (154 ± 10(stat.) ± 12(syst.)) × 10−8 W bosons per minimum-bias PbPb collision. The dependence ...

A search for the standard model Higgs boson (H) decaying to bb̅ when produced in association with weak vector bosons (V) is reported for the following modes: W(μν)H, W(eν)H, Z(μμ)H, Z(ee)H and Z(νν)H. The search is performed in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb−1, recorded by the CMS detector in proton–proton collisions at the LHC with a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. No significant excess of events above the expectation from background is observed. Upper limits on the V H production cross ...

We present a measurement of the inclusive jet cross section using the Run II cone algorithm and data collected by the D0 experiment in pp̅ collisions at a center-of-mass energy √s= 1.96 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 0.70 fb-1. The jet energy calibration and the method used to extract the inclusive jet cross section are described. We discuss the main uncertainties, which are dominated by the jet energy scale uncertainty. The results cover jet transverse momenta from 50 GeV to 600 GeV with jet rapidities in the range -2.4 to 2.4 and are ...

A search is presented for physics beyond the standard model (BSM) in events with a Z boson, jets, and missing transverse energy (EmissT ). This signature is motivated by BSM physics scenarios, including supersymmetry. The study is performed using a sample of proton–proton collision data collected at √s = 7 TeV with the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.98 fb−1. The contributions from the dominant standard model backgrounds are estimated from data using two complementary strategies, the jet-Z balance technique and a method based on modeling EmissT with data ...

We report a search for a narrow tt̅ resonance that decays into a lepton + jets final state based on an integrated luminosity of 5.3 fb-1 of proton-antiproton collisions at √s= 1.96 TeV collected by the D0 Collaboration at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We set upper limits on the production cross section of such a resonance multiplied by its branching fraction to tt̅. We exclude a leptophobic topcolor Z! at the 95% confidence level for masses below 835 GeV (940 GeV) if its width is 1.2% (3%) of its mass. We also exclude color octet vector bosons ...
