Comparison Of Magnetic Images Using Point And Thin-Film Magnetic Force Microscopy Tips, Sy_Hwang Liou

Sy-Hwang Liou Publications

The magnetic images of a magnetic reference sample were compared using point and thin-film magnetic force microscopy (MFM) tips. The thin film MFM tip was made by magnetron sputtering of an amorphous metal. The point MFM tip was made by an ion milling process that produces a small magnetic particle on the cantilever. Our results clearly demonstrated that the volume of magnetic material involved in the tip-sample interaction is much reduced in the case of the point tip compared to that of the thin film tips. By comparing the magnetic images of a tri-bit pattern on a magnetic reference sample, …

We have fabricate and studied a variety of devices based on stacked YBa2Cu3Ox bicrystal Josephson junctions in a multilayer structure. The proximity of the junctions in the two layers produces a large number of effects based on interactions between the junctions. Voltage locking and current locking were observed in the stacked junctions. The voltage locking is due to the ac path provided by a SrTiO3 layer between the stacked junctions. The current locking is likely the result of a Josephson vortex interaction.

The noise of YBa2Cu3O7-χ and Ti2Ba2Ca2Cu2O10-χ thin films in the frequency range from 0.5 Hz to 100 kHz was studied. In the normal state, it was found that 1/f noise dominated, with a magnitude strongly dependent on temperature. In the superconducting state, the noise was only observable at frequencies below 5 Hz with our present setup. Equilibrium thermal fluctuation noise was not observed in these films.
