Quasielastic 12C(e,e'p) scattering was measured at spacelike 4-momentum transfer squared Q2 = 8, 9.4, 11.4, and 14.2 (GeV/c)2, the highest ever achieved to date. Nuclear transparency for this reaction was extracted by comparing the measured yield to that expected from a plane-wave impulse approximation calculation without any final state interactions. The measured transparency was consistent with no Q2 dependence, up to proton momenta of 8.5 GeV/c, ruling out the quantum chromodynamics effect of color transparency at the measured Q2 scales in exclusive (e, e'p) reactions. These results impose strict constraints on models of color …

Three-Particle Systems With Resonant Subprocesses In A Finite Volume, Raúl A. Briceño, Maxwell T. Hansen, Stephen R. Sharpe

In previous work, we have developed a relativistic, model-independent three-particle quantization condition, but only under the assumption that no poles are present in the two-particle K matrices that appear as scattering subprocesses [M. T. Hansen and S. R. Sharpe, Phys. Rev. D 90, 116003 (2014); M. T. Hansen and S. R. Sharpe, Phys. Rev. D 92, 114509 (2015); R. A. Briceño et al., Phys. Rev. D 95, 074510 (2017).]. Here we lift this restriction, by deriving the quantization condition for identical scalar particles with a G-parity symmetry, in the case that the two-particle K matrix has a pole in the …

The Heavy Photon Search experiment took its first data in a 2015 engineering run using a 1.056 GeV, 50 nA electron beam provided by CEBAF at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility, searching for a prompt, electroproduced dark photon with a mass between 19 and 81  MeV/c2. A search for a resonance in the e+e invariant mass distribution, using 1.7 days (1170  nb−1) of data, showed no evidence of dark photon decays above the large QED background, confirming earlier searches and demonstrating the full functionality of the experiment. Upper limits on the square …

Nucleon And Nuclear Structure Through Dilepton Production, I. V. Anikin, N. Baltzell, M. Boer, R. Boussarie, V. M. Braun, S. J. Brodsky, A. Camsonne, W. C. Chang, L. Colaneri, C. E. Hyde Apr 2018

Transverse momentum distributions and generalized parton distributions provide a comprehensive framework for the three-dimensional imaging of the nucleon and the nucleus experimentally using deeply virtual semi-exclusive and exclusive processes. The advent of combined high luminosity facilities and large acceptance detector capabilities enables experimental investigation of the partonic structure of hadrons with time-like virtual probes, in complement to the rich on-going space-like virtual probe program. The merits and benefits of the dilepton production channel for nuclear structure studies are discussed within the context of the International Workshop on Nucleon and Nuclear Structure through Dilepton Production taking place at the European Center …

Photon Impact Factor And 𝑘T Factorization For Dis In The Next-To-Leading Order, Ian Balitsky, Giovanni A. Chirilli Jan 2013

Photon Impact Factor And 𝑘T Factorization For Dis In The Next-To-Leading Order, Ian Balitsky, Giovanni A. Chirilli

Physics Faculty Publications

The photon impact factor for the Balitsky-Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov pomeron is calculated in the next-to-leading order approximation using the operator expansion in Wilson lines. The result is represented as a next-to-leading order 𝑘T-factorization formula for the structure functions of small-𝓍 deep inelastic scattering.
