We determine the Δ(1232) resonance parameters using lattice QCD and the Lüscher method. The resonance occurs in elastic pion-nucleon scattering with JP = 3/2+ in the isospin I=3/2, P-wave channel. Our calculation is performed with Nf = 2+1 flavors of clover fermions on a lattice with L ≈ 2.8 fm. The pion and nucleon masses are mπ = 255.4 (1.6) MeV and mN = 1073(5) MeV, respectively, and the strong decay channel Δ → πN is found to be above the threshold. To thoroughly map out the energy dependence of the nucleon-pion …

We present a determination of the isospin-1/2 elastic πK scattering amplitudes in S and P partial waves using lattice quantum chromodynamics. The amplitudes, constrained for a large number of real-valued energy points, are obtained as a function of light-quark mass, corresponding to four pion masses between 200 and 400 MeV, at a single lattice spacing. Below the first inelastic threshold, the P-wave scattering amplitude is dominated by a single pole singularity that evolves from being a stable bound state at the highest quark mass into a narrow resonance that broadens as the pion and kaon masses are reduced. As in …

We report a high precision measurement of the transverse single spin asymmetry AN at the center of mass energy √s = 200 GeV in elastic proton–proton scattering by the STAR experiment at RHIC. The AN was measured in the four-momentum transfer squared t range 0.003 ⩽ | t | ⩽ 0.035 ( GeV / c ) 2 , the region of a significant interference between the electromagnetic and hadronic scattering amplitudes. The measured values of AN and its t-dependence are consistent with a vanishing hadronic spin-flip amplitude, thus providing strong constraints on the ratio of the …

We have measured the nuclear transparency of the incoherent diffractive A( e , e ′ ρ0 ) process in 12C and 56Fe targets relative to 2H using a 5 GeV electron beam. The nuclear transparency, the ratio of the produced ρ0 ʼs on a nucleus relative to deuterium, which is sensitive to ρA interaction, was studied as function of the coherence length (lc), a lifetime of the hadronic fluctuation of the virtual photon, and the four-momentum transfer squared (Q2). While the transparency for both 12C and 56Fe …

We studied the exclusive reaction ep → e' p' ᵠ using the ᵠ →K+K- decay mode. The data were collected using a 4.2 GeV incident electron beam and the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. Our experiment covers the range in Q2 from 0.7 to 2.2 GeV2and W from 2.0 to 2.6 GeV. Taken together with all previous data, we find a consistent picture of ᵠ production on the proton. Our measurement shows the expected decrease of the t slope with the vector-meson formation time c Δ t …

Measurements were performed for the photodisintegration cross section of the deuteron for photon energies from 1.6 to 2.8 GeV and center-of-mass angles from 37° to 90°. The measured energy dependence of the cross section at θc.m. = 90° is in agreement with the constituent counting rules.
