The proposed Dickey-Lincoln School Lakes Project in northern Maine is a multipurpose installation on the St.John River. The combination hydroelectric power and flood control project is located in Aroostook County, Maine, near the Canadian border. The two proposed earth fill dams located at Dickey are 10,200 feet in length with a maximum height of 335 feet. They would impound 7.7 million acre feet of water at a maximum pool elevation 910 feet mean sea level. A second earth filled dam located 11 miles downstream at Lincoln School would serve as a regulatory dam. It would be 2100 feet in lenqth, …

Two dams are proposed on the St. John River in northern Maine: Dickey, a high earth filled dam immediately above the confluence of the Allagash with the St. John, will have an installed generating capacity of 760 MW; and Lincoln School Dam, 11 miles downstream, a capacity of 70 MW. These dams are scheduled for completion during the mid 1980's. The U.S. Corps of Engineers, New England Division, has been allocated funds to design the project and prepare their own environmental impact statement. This report summarizes the results of system planning, environmental, and location studies for transmission facilities associated with the proposed Dickey-Lincoln School Lakes Project in northern Maine. The studies recommend the construction of two 345-kV transmission circuits from a substation near the project along a route through western Maine into northern New Hampshire and Vermont. The plan will integrate the power produced by the project into the New England Power Pool Transmission System. Five alternate integration plans were identified and studied. IN most seasons in the Western Australian Wheatbelt evaporation reduction techniques rate a low priority due to either the expense or the relative inefficiency of the techniques.
It is generally agreed that a similar investment in deepening or enlarging existing dams, or making new dams larger from the outset, is likely to be more profitable.

RESULTS of a survey on water storage capacity in the South Stirlings area indicate that farm water storage has not kept pace with increased clearing and stock numbers.
This has resulted in many farmers requesting advice on water conservation projects following two consecutive years of low rainfall runoff.
