Essays In Mechanism Design., Suresh Mutuswami Dr.

Doctoral Theses

The theory of implementation or mechanism design had its origins in the debates in the 1930s between Hayek, Lange and Lerner on the informational efficiency of the market economy. However, it was the work of Hurwicz in the 1950s and the 1960s which formalised the insights of Hayek, Lange and Lerner and paved the way for the body of work that followed his pioneering effort. In addition to the considerable theoretical literature on mechanism de- sign'. there also exists a body of literature which uses the mechanism design approach to address specific problems. Some examples of work in this vein include …

On Detection And Use Of Reflectional Symmetry In Computer Vision., Dipti Prasad Mukherjee Dr. Jul 1995

On Detection And Use Of Reflectional Symmetry In Computer Vision., Dipti Prasad Mukherjee Dr.

Doctoral Theses

The problems of detection and use of reflectional symmetry in the images of planar shape contours are studied. Symmetry, in general, provides important shape representation cues, some of which we utilise here, to acquire viewpoint information and, towards model based shape matching. We concentrate on local reflectional symmetries of emoothly curved planar objecta, though the methoda are equally applicable to polygonal objects; even this could be extended to certain three-dimensional shapes and for other object relations such as rotational symmetry.Under the affine or perspective approximation to image projection, properties of geometrie invariance are used to find (reflectional) symmetric contour pairs. …

Price Rigidities, Rationing Schemes And Economic Efficiency., P. R. Nayak Dr.

Doctoral Theses

The prime concem of economist: traditionally has been the system of markets and their role in rasource allocat on. Walrasian equilibrium theory, which is believed to províde an ajequate framework for resource allocation through markets, has been extensively analysed in the recent past. At the sane time, it has been realined, mainly throunh Keynesian influence, that the market machanism is prone to failures, DOwnward Inflezibility of wages is an obvious example of this. It is further possi that a central authority concerned with improving general welfare may tamper vith the market mechanism or do away with it altoer.Thered ar three …
