On March 16-17, The Climate of Environmental Justice: Taking Stock conference gathered 125 academics and practitioners from around the country to consider the pressing issues facing low-income and/or communities of color that continue to be subjected to a disproportionate share of environmental maladies.

The purpose of this report is to reassess the economic value that the Gulf-Atlantic Waterway will have on Duval county. This will show the direct relationship on the Port and the indirect benefits to other segments in our economy. This is needed for three reasons: 1. The last economic study was completed by the Corps of Engineers with the assistance of Arthur D. Little, Inc., a national consulting firm, in 1962. The purpose of this study was to define the beach erosion and the hurricane-induced flooding problems in Duval County, to determine the most economical methods of alleviating those problems, and to determine the division of costs between the Federal Government and local interests .
