A Design Strategy To Improve Machine Learning Resiliency Of Physically Unclonable Functions Using Modulus Process, Yuqiu Jiang Dec 2023

A Design Strategy To Improve Machine Learning Resiliency Of Physically Unclonable Functions Using Modulus Process, Yuqiu Jiang

Theses and Dissertations

Physically unclonable functions (PUFs) are hardware security primitives that utilize non-reproducible manufacturing variations to provide device-specific challenge-response pairs (CRPs). Such primitives are desirable for applications such as communication and intellectual property protection. PUFs have been gaining considerable interest from both the academic and industrial communities because of their simplicity and stability. However, many recent studies have exposed PUFs to machine-learning (ML) modeling attacks. To improve the resilience of a system to general ML attacks instead of a specific ML technique, a common solution is to improve the complexity of the system. Structures, such as XOR-PUFs, can significantly increase the nonlinearity …

Prediction Of Concurrent Hypertensive Disorders In Pregnancy And Gestational Diabetes Mellitus Using Machine Learning Techniques, Mary Ejiwale

Theses and Dissertations

Gestational diabetes mellitus and hypertensive disorders in pregnancy are serious maternal health conditions with immediate and lifelong mother-child health consequences. These obstetric pathologies have been widely investigated, but mostly in silos, while studies focusing on their simultaneous occurrence rarely exist. This is especially the case in the machine learning domain. This retrospective study sought to investigate, construct, evaluate, compare, and isolate a supervised machine learning predictive model for the binary classification of co-occurring gestational diabetes mellitus and hypertensive disorders in pregnancy in a cohort of otherwise healthy pregnant women. To accomplish the stated aims, this study analyzed an extract (n=4624, …

Medical Image Segmentation Using Machine Learning, Masoud Khani Aug 2021

Medical Image Segmentation Using Machine Learning, Masoud Khani

Theses and Dissertations

Image segmentation is the most crucial step in image processing and analysis. It can divide an image into meaningfully descriptive components or pathological structures. The result of the image division helps analyze images and classify objects. Therefore, getting the most accurate segmented image is essential, especially in medical images. Segmentation methods can be divided into three categories: manual, semiautomatic, and automatic. Manual is the most general and straightforward approach. Manual segmentation is not only time-consuming but also is imprecise. However, automatic image segmentation techniques, such as thresholding and edge detection, are not accurate in the presence of artifacts like noise …

Threshold Free Detection Of Elliptical Landmarks Using Machine Learning, Lifan Zhang Dec 2017

Threshold Free Detection Of Elliptical Landmarks Using Machine Learning, Lifan Zhang

Theses and Dissertations

Elliptical shape detection is widely used in practical applications. Nearly all classical ellipse detection algorithms require some form of threshold, which can be a major cause of detection failure, especially in the challenging case of Moire Phase Tracking (MPT) target images. To meet the challenge, a threshold free detection algorithm for elliptical landmarks is proposed in this thesis. The proposed Aligned Gradient and Unaligned Gradient (AGUG) algorithm is a Support Vector Machine (SVM)-based classification algorithm, original features are extracted from the gradient information corresponding to the sampled pixels. with proper selection of features, the proposed algorithm has a high accuracy …

Bayesian Methods And Machine Learning For Processing Text And Image Data, Yingying Gu Aug 2017

Bayesian Methods And Machine Learning For Processing Text And Image Data, Yingying Gu

Theses and Dissertations

Classification/clustering is an important class of unstructured data processing problems. The classification (supervised, semi-supervised and unsupervised) aims to discover the clusters and group the similar data into categories for information organization and knowledge discovery. My work focuses on using the Bayesian methods and machine learning techniques to classify the free-text and image data, and address how to overcome the limitations of the traditional methods. The Bayesian approach provides a way to allow using more variations(numerical or categorical), and estimate the probabilities instead of explicit rules, which will benefit in the ambiguous cases. The MAP(maximum a posterior) estimation is used to …

Stage-Specific Predictive Models For Cancer Survivability, Elham Sagheb Hossein Pour Dec 2016

Stage-Specific Predictive Models For Cancer Survivability, Elham Sagheb Hossein Pour

Theses and Dissertations

Survivability of cancer strongly depends on the stage of cancer. In most previous works, machine learning survivability prediction models for a particular cancer, were trained and evaluated together on all stages of the cancer. In this work, we trained and evaluated survivability prediction models for five major cancers, together on all stages and separately for every stage. We named these models joint and stage-specific models respectively. The obtained results for the cancers which we investigated reveal that, the best model to predict the survivability of the cancer for one specific stage is the model which is specifically built for that …

Complex Network Analysis For Scientific Collaboration Prediction And Biological Hypothesis Generation, Qing Zhang Aug 2014

Complex Network Analysis For Scientific Collaboration Prediction And Biological Hypothesis Generation, Qing Zhang

Theses and Dissertations

With the rapid development of digitalized literature, more and more knowledge has been discovered by computational approaches. This thesis addresses the problem of link prediction in co-authorship networks and protein--protein interaction networks derived from the literature. These networks (and most other types of networks) are growing over time and we assume that a machine can learn from past link creations by examining the network status at the time of their creation. Our goal is to create a computationally efficient approach to recommend new links for a node in a network (e.g., new collaborations in co-authorship networks and new interactions in …
