Exploring The Photocatalytic And Photodynamic Effects Of Bodipy-Linked Titanium Dioxide Nanoparticles, Seda Demi̇rel Topel

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

This study aimed to investigate the photocatalytic and photodynamic actions of a 2,6-diiodinated-BODIPY (2,6-diI2-Bod) photosensitizer (PS) covalently linked to TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs). The TiO2 NPs were synthesized utilizing the hydrothermal technique, yielding an average particle size of 4–5 nm as ascertained by transmission electron microscopy and 6.4 nm as determined by dynamic light scattering measurements. The integration of the nonsoluble Bod PS to TiO2 NPs provided increased dispersibility in physiological media, making it more applicable to photodynamic therapy applications. Bod-TiO2 NPs exhibited moderate efficiency of 56.9% in singlet oxygen generation. Additionally, the photocatalytic behavior of the TiO2 NPs was evaluated …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

In this study, polypropylene nonwoven was coated with chitosan after being activated by oxygen/argon low-pressure plasma. The chitosan-treated sample (PP-Ch) was coated with TiO$_{2}$ nanoparticles by a pad-dry method. Silver nanoparticles were in situ synthesized on the chitosan-TiO$_{2}$-coated sample by a chemical reduction method. The morphology of each of the samples mentioned above was evaluated by FESEM. The efficiency of each sample in the removal of C.I. Acid Brown 248 from aqueous media was evaluated. The PP-Ch sample removed 90% of the dye at pH=3. Coating the PP-Ch sample with TiO$_{2}$ and silver nanoparticles improved the dye removal efficiency under …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

This study focuses on the modification of natural hydroxyapatite (HAp) derived from clamshell by impregnation with palladium (Pd) at different pH in wet precipitation method to produce photoactive green materials for the degradation of synthetic dyes. It was found that, at pH 10, Pd has been successfully impregnated into HAp lattice with Ca/P ratio of 1.77 and particle distribution size range of 40?470 nm. The impregnation has resulted in the band gap of Pd/HAp at 3.19 eV, as calculated using Tauc?s plot from the UV-Vis spectroscopy data of the Pd/HAp. Next, the photocatalytic activities of Pd/HAp were carried out with …

The Role Of Some Metal Ions In Enhancement Of Photocatalytic Activity Of Fe$_{2}$O$_{3}$-V$_{2}$O$_{5}$Binary Oxide, Eda Sinirtaş İlkme, Güli̇n Selda Pozan Soylu

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Fe$_{2}$O$_{3}$-V$_{2}$O$_{5}$ mixed oxides were synthesized with solid-state dispersion (SSD) and coprecipitation methods. In addition, transition metal oxides such as CuO, NiO, and Co$_{3}$O$_{4}$ were successfully loaded on the synthesized catalyst (Fe$_{2}$O$_{3}$-V$_{2}$O$_{5}$) using the SSD method. The composite catalysts were inspected for their photocatalytic activities in degrading 2,4-dichlorophenol under UV light enforcement. The produced samples were analyzed using X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, photoluminescence, and the Brunauer-Emmett- Teller method. The addition of transition metal oxides improved the photocatalytic activity of Fe$_{2}$O$_{3}$-V$_{2}$O$_{5}$5 (SSD). 1CuO wt% Fe$_{2}$O$_{3}$-V$_{2}$O$_{5}$ exhibited the highest percentage of 2,4-dichlorophenol …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

We prepared novel unsymmetrical A$_{3}$B-type zinc and cobalt phthalocyanines bearing monocarboxylic acid groups on peripheral positions using statistical condensation method, especially designed to anchor on the TiO$_{2}$ semiconductor surface. The novel complexes were anchored on TiO$_{2}$ semiconductor to prepare effective dye sensitized photoactive composites as heterogeneous catalysts. The results indicated that modified TiO$_{2}$ nanocrystals possessed only the anatase phase and MPc-TiO$_{2}$ photocatalysts with loading amount of dye ca. 8.27 $\mu $mol/g TiO$_{2}$ exhibit strong visible light absorption. Photocatalytic degradation of 4-chlorophenol (4-CP) under illumination with visible light ($\lambda >$ 400 nm) was tested with the composites prepared. The degradation profile …
