Reaction of [Ru(p-cymene)Cl2]2 with K(η5-C5HPh4) in refluxing diglyme yields (η5-C5Ph4)2Ru in ca 50% yield. The complex was not susceptible to oxidation or reduction. (C5HPH4)2Ru crystallizes in the triclinic P1 space group with a = 8.549(4), b = 10.793(4), c = 12.842(5) Å, α = 65.98(3), β = 73.10(3), γ = 83.49(3)° and Z = 1. The least-squares data refined to R(F) = 3.53% and R(wF = 3.82% for the …

Since the initial preparation of (η5‐C5H5)Mn(CO)3 by Fischer and Jira in 1954, many methods have been developed for the synthesis of this compound (often referred to as “cymantrene”) and its C5 substituted derivatives. Interestingly, each of these preparations has at least one significant drawback from a preparative perspective (thallium reagents, high pressures, poor yields, or reactants that require significant preparative investment). Surprisingly missing from this collection of preparative methods is the direct reaction between commercially available Mn(CO)5Br and NaC5H5. In 1988, however, Smart and coworkers found …

A Novel Dual Allosteric Activation Mechanism Of Escherichia Coli Adp-Glucose Pyrophosphorylase: The Role Of Pyruvate, Matías D. Asención Diez, Mabel C. Aleanzi, Alberto A. Iglesias, Miguel Ballicora

Fructose-1,6-bisphosphate activates ADP-glucose pyrophosphorylase and the synthesis of glycogen in Escherichia coli. Here, we show that although pyruvate is a weak activator by itself, it synergically enhances the fructose-1,6-bisphosphate activation. They increase the enzyme affinity for each other, and the combination increases Vmax, substrate apparent affinity, and decreases AMP inhibition. Our results indicate that there are two distinct interacting allosteric sites for activation. Hence, pyruvate modulates E. coli glycogen metabolism by orchestrating a functional network of allosteric regulators. We postulate that this novel dual activator mechanism increases the evolvability of ADP-glucose pyrophosphorylase and its related metabolic control.

Chalcopyrite CuInS2 (CIS) hierarchical structures composed of nanoflakes with a thickness of about 5 nm were synthesized by a facial solvothermal method. The thermodynamically metastable wurtzite phase CIS would be obtained by using InCl3 instead of In(NO3)3 as In precursor. The effects of the In precursor and the volume of concentrated HCl aqueous solution on the phases and morphologies of CIS nanocrystals have been systematically investigated. Experimental results indicated that the obtained phases of CIS nanocrystals were predominantly determined by precursor-induced intermediate products. The photocatalytic properties of chalcopyrite and wurtzite CIS in visible-light-driven degradation of …

Synthesis Of Large Crystal Transition Metal Substituted Zeolite Zsm-5, Tara L. Schaeffer, Scott Kirkby Oct 2008

Synthesis Of Large Crystal Transition Metal Substituted Zeolite Zsm-5, Tara L. Schaeffer, Scott Kirkby

Scott J. Kirkby

Crystals of ZSM-5 containing Cu, Mn, and Fe have been synthesized up to 85 μm in length along the long axis.
This is 1 to 2 orders of magnitude larger than any previously reported. Phase identification was accomplished by powder XRD. A modified Charnel’s method was used to chelate the transition metal and the aluminum in the synthesis gel. Element alanalysis was performed by ICP-AES, confirming the presence of the metals. The metals are resistant to leaching under ion exchange and, as determined by partial dissolution, incorporated throughout the volume of the crystals.
