>Mechanical properties of polymer composites with dispersed nanoparticles (CDNP) depend on interaction between the nanoparticles and the polymer matrix. Strength of polymer composites significantly decreases when there is no interaction between dispersed nanoparticles and the polymer. This limits the application of functional polymer composites with dispersed nanoparticles. In this study, CDNP based on ED-20 epoxy resin with dispersed copper oxide nanoparticles was obtained. These nanoparticles were synthesized in epoxy resin before curing: the nanoparticles were obtained by decomposition of copper hydroxide by heating its solution in ED-20 resin. The kinetics of copper oxide nanoparticles formation in CDNP samples were studied using two …

Detection of E. coli bacteria in water samples can indicate the presence of other bacterial contamination in feces. Bacterial contamination can be treated with antibiotics, but excessive use of antibiotics leads to the emergence of multiresistant bacteria. Therefore, alternative antibacterial agents must be explored. Copper ion/zeolite composite has been widely studied as an antibacterial agent. However, the released copper ions accumulate in water and are toxic to humans; this can be prevented by converting copper ions into copper oxides (CuO and Cu2O). In this study, copper oxide/zeolite composite is synthesized and characterized using the heating method, followed by …

Synthesis Of Copper Nano/Microparticles Via Thermal Decomposition And Their Conversion To Copper Oxide Film, Çağdaş Allahverdi̇

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Copper nano/microparticles were synthesized in octadecene at 290 °C by thermal decomposition method. Copper acetate monohydrate, stearic acid, and 1-octadecanol were used as copper precursor, capping and mild reducing agents, respectively, at the synthesis. Borosilicate glass substrates submerged into the reaction solution during the synthesis were coated by copper nano/ microparticles. Thermal decomposition and coating techniques were combined in this study. Copper nano/microparticles were thoroughly characterised via X-ray powder diffraction, X-ray photoelectron, Raman, and attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopies, and scanning and transmission electron microscopies. The average minimum Feret?s diameter of these synthesized copper particles was measured as ~87 …
