Using Virus Like Particle Conjugates Of Synthetic Targeting Compounds To Deliver Chemotherapeutic Drugs To Cancer Stem Cells, Austen W. Kerzee
Using Virus Like Particle Conjugates Of Synthetic Targeting Compounds To Deliver Chemotherapeutic Drugs To Cancer Stem Cells, Austen W. Kerzee
Chemistry Theses
Cancer stem cells are a type of cell that have the properties of both cancer cells and stem cells. They can differentiate into other types of cancer cells, are resistant to conventional chemotherapeutics, and seem to contribute greatly to the metastasis and recurrence of cancer. Due to these properties, eliminating cancer stem cells would be greatly beneficial in the treatment of cancer. While there have been approved therapeutic methods for the removal of a few of the cancer stem cells types, treatment for most types of cancer stem cells are still in the experimental phase and have yet to be …

Chemistry Theses
The production of cutting-edge materials, the development of novel medications, drug delivery systems, technological advancements, and biosynthesizing all depend on molecular building blocks. Proteins are required for the creation of intricate, well-organized structures, and coiled-coil protein domains are vital subunits for the oligomerization of protein complexes, gene expression, and the structural components of biological materials. The numerous interactions between a wide variety of amino acids make it difficult to assemble protein complexes with a particular shape. In the current study, we successfully designed and synthesized four different 32-residue peptides, each of which had two modified amino azide residues. These peptides …

Synthesis, Characterization, Electronic Structure Of Reduced Graphene Oxide Modified Fenbo₄, Nh₂-Mil-125(Ti) Modified Fenbo₄ Composities And Their Photocatalytic Activities, Salwa Abdelrahim Hussein Ahmed
Chemistry Theses
The production of value-added products through CO₂ utilization using photocatalysis offers an alternative green route for CO₂ fixation. Wide bandgap photocatalysts allow the absorption of light in the UV region, which represents the lowest percentage of the sunlight irradiation. On the other hand, narrow bandgap photocatalysts absorb light in the visible region, though the recombination rate of the generated electron-hole pairs affects their activity. In this thesis, the narrow bandgap FeNbO₄ is synthesized, studied and efforts are made to reduce the recombination rate and enhancing the photocatalytic activity.
Moreover, three FeNbO₄/NH₂-MIL-125(Ti) composites with different mole ratios are prepared, characterized and …

Chemistry Theses
This thesis describes the synthesis of novel derivatives of isoniazid and 1, 3, 4- oxadiazole piperazines and biological activities evaluation. The synthesis of the isoniazid derivatives (36a-Ɩ) was achieved by nucleophilic substitution of chloroacetylated isoniazid 34 with substituted piperazines (35a-Ɩ) produced isoniazidpiperazines (36a-Ɩ). On the other hand, cyclodehydration of chloroacetylated isoniazid 34 with POCl3 give the corresponding 1, 3, 4-oxadiazole 37 which upon treatment with substituted piperazines (35a-m) gave 1, 3, 4-oxadiazole-piperazines (38a-m). All newly synthesized compounds were purified and characterized using spectroscopic techniques including 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, IR spectrometry and mass spectrometry.
The biological activity of the synthesized compounds has …
Ph-Controlled Preferential Binding Of Cucurbit[7]Uril-Coated Iron Oxide Nanoparticles To 6-Mercaptonicotinic Acid For Fluoroscent Detection Of Cadmium Ions In The Solid State, Reem H. H. Alzard
Chemistry Theses
A host−guest complex of 6-mercaptonicotinic acid (MNA) and cucurbit [7] uril (CB7) was prepared and conjugated to γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles (NPs) to detect toxic cadmium ions in water as a solid-state sensor. The formation of an inclusion host−guest complex with CB7 was confirmed by UV−vis absorption and proton NMR spectroscopy. CB7 preferentially binds the protonated MNA form compared to the neutral form, demonstrated by a binding constant for the protonated form that is four orders of magnitude higher than the neutral form. An increase in the pKa of MNA by 1.2 units was demonstrated after the addition of CB7, …

Alginate/Cucurbit [7] Uril/Dequalinium–Basedb Supramolecular Carbohydrates: Modulation Of Fret Signal By Temperature Control, Amir Sohail Noor Alam Jan
Chemistry Theses
Herein, we describe the synthesis of a bioactive, inexpensive, and easy-tohandle supramolecular carbohydrate polymer by grafting of cucurbit [7] uril macrocycle (CB7)-encapsulated dequalinium chloride hydrate (DCH) onto alginic acid carbohydrates (ALG) via amide linkage formation and show that light energy transfer based on energy migration can be controlled by altering polymer temperature without changing polymer composition. DCH (donor) and 2-anilinonaphthalene-6- sulfonic acid (acceptor) were used to generate Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) signals. Stationary and time-resolved photoluminescence spectra of the modified carbohydrate platform revealed that FRET resulted in a color change from violet (~387 nm) to blue (~429 nm), which …

Time-Resolved Photoluminescence Of 6-Thienyl-Lumazine Flourophore In Cellulose Acetate Nanofibers For Detection Of Mercury Ions, Noura A. Humaid Al Shamisi
Chemistry Theses
Time-resolved photoluminescence measurements were used to characterize the photophysical properties of 6-thienyllumazine (TLm) fluorophores in cellulose acetate nanofibers (NFs) in the presence and absence of mercuric acetate salts. In solution, excited-state proton transfer (ESPT) from TLm to water molecules was observed at pH from 2 to 12. The insertion of the thienyl group into lumazine (Lm) introduces cis and trans conformers while keeping the same tautomerization structures. Global and target analysis was employed to resolve the true emission spectra of all prototropic, tautomeric, and rotameric species for TLm in water. However, in the NFs solid film no ESPT from TLm …

Development Of A New Analytical Method For Separation And Quantitative Determination Of Synthetic Cathinones In Urine Using Gas Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry, Jasim Ali Mohamed Alzaabi
Chemistry Theses
This thesis is concerned with a new class of drugs known as synthetic cathinones, which overruns the drug markets in recent years as “legal highs” drugs, under different commercial names such as bath salts. All synthetic cathinone derivatives consist of a chiral center and usually sold out as a racemic mixture. Usually, one of the two enantiomers will have stronger central nervous system (CNS) stimulatory activity and the other one may have no significant CNS activity or addictive properties. A new sensitive and selective analytical method was developed for the simultaneous determination of ten synthetic cathinones enantiomers in spiked urine …

Development Of Hydroxyapatite-Polymer Sorbents For The Removal Of Heavy Metal Ions From Waste Waters, Eleanora Charnetskaya
Chemistry Theses
Water pollution due to the presence of soluble metal ions is one of the greatest challenges to environmental scientists. Different methods have been explored to the removal of these soluble ions. Among these methods, elimination by sorption into/onto solid materials has been considered one of the successful approaches. Sorbent materials usually chemically interact with soluble ions and eliminate them by bond formation between the ions and the sorbent molecules. On the other hand, soluble ions can be also exchanged with inorganic sorbents in which other environmentally friendly ions can exchange with the soluble metal ions. In the current study, the …
