Electrocatalytic “Volcano-Type” Effect Of Nano-Tio2 (A)/(R) Phase Content In Pt/Tio2-CnX Catalyst, Ai-Lin Cui, Yang Bai, Hong-Ying Yu, Hui-Min Meng

Journal of Electrochemistry

The relationship between the electrochemical activity of fuel cell catalysts and Pt particle size, as well as the catalyst support and co-catalyst is still unclear. In this work, FESEM, XRD, BET, TEM and CV techniques were adopted to investigate the effects of TiO2 anatase (A)/rutile (R) phases content on the electrochemical activity of Pt electrocatalyst. The results showed that the anatase-rutile phase transformation occurred during the heat treatment of TiO2 at 700 ~ 900 oC accompanied by the growth of two-phase crystalline size, and anatase was completely transformed into rutile at 900 oC. TEM results revealed that the …

Rutile Tio2 Nanosheet Arrays Planted On Magnetron Sputtered Ti Metal Layers For Efficient Perovskite Solar Cells, Nang Zhang, Meidan Ye, Xiaoru Wen, Changjian Lin

Journal of Electrochemistry

In this work, vertical rutile titanium oxide (TiO2) nanosheet arrays (NSAs) were firstly hydrothermally grown on the top of thin titanium (Ti) metal layers which were loaded on fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) substrates by the DF magnetron sputtering deposition method. After an annealing post-treatment, the Ti metal layers were transformed into the compact TiO2 layers with a strong connection between the rutile TiO2 NSAs and the FTO substrates. For comparison, the rutile TiO2 NSAs were similarly planted over two compact TiO2 layers fabricated through atomic layer deposition (ALD) and spin coating (SC) methods, …

Tio 2 Fibers: Tunable Polymorphic Phase Transformation And Electrochemical Properties, Edna Garcia, Qiang Li, Xing Sun, Karen Lozano, Yuanbing Mao May 2015

Tio 2 Fibers: Tunable Polymorphic Phase Transformation And Electrochemical Properties, Edna Garcia, Qiang Li, Xing Sun, Karen Lozano, Yuanbing Mao

Chemistry Faculty Publications and Presentations

A series of one-dimensional (1D) nanoparticle-assembled TiO2 fibers with tunable polymorphs were prepared via a novel and large scale ForceSpinning® process of titanium tetraisopropoxide (TTIP)/polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) precursor fibers followed with a thermal treatment at various calcinations temperatures. The thermal and structural transformations were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis/differential scanning calorimetry, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The influence of polymorphic phase of the TiO2 fibers on the electrochemical performance in neutral aqueous 1 M Na2SO4 electrolyte was investigated. The polymorphic amorphous/anatase/rutile TiO2 fibers prepared at 450 °C achieved a highest capacitance of 21.2 F g−1 (6.61 mF cm−2) at a current …

First-Principles Study Of The Electric Field Effect On The Water-Adsorbed Rutile Titanium Dioxide Surface, Abraham L. Hmiel Jan 2014

First-Principles Study Of The Electric Field Effect On The Water-Adsorbed Rutile Titanium Dioxide Surface, Abraham L. Hmiel

Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)

TiO2 is a semiconducting material that has been used extensively in many industrial applications, and recently has become a candidate for photocatalytic water splitting, fuel cell anode support materials, sensors, and other novel nanodevices. The interface of TiO2 with water, historically well-studied but still poorly understood, presents a ubiquitous environmental challenge towards the ultimate practical usefulness of these technologies. Ground-state density functional theory (DFT) calculations studying the characteristics of molecular adsorption on model surfaces have been studied for decades, showing constant improvement in the description of the energetics and electronic structure at interfaces. These simulations are invaluable in the …

Preparation And Electrochemical Performance Of Tio2/Gns Nanocomposite As Anode Materials For Lithium-Ion Batteries, Lin-Lin Qin, Huan Zhang, Xiao-Jing Liu, Jian-Hui Xu, Yi-Ning Shi, Ming-Sen Zheng, Quan-Feng Dong Jun 2012

Preparation And Electrochemical Performance Of Tio2/Gns Nanocomposite As Anode Materials For Lithium-Ion Batteries, Lin-Lin Qin, Huan Zhang, Xiao-Jing Liu, Jian-Hui Xu, Yi-Ning Shi, Ming-Sen Zheng, Quan-Feng Dong

Journal of Electrochemistry

The honeycomb-like porous TiO2/graphenes (TiO2/GNs) nanocomposite was prepared by a reflux method. SEM and TEM results showed that nanosized anatase TiO2 (about 5~10 nm) were dispersed uniformly on the surface of the GNs. The TiO2/GNs composite showed excellent rate and cycling performance: A stable charge capacity of 169.5 mAh?g-1 was obtained at 30C, and can restore to 241.7 mAh?g-1 while current went back to 1C. The stable charge capacity of TiO2/GNs nanocomposite electrode up to 201.9 mAh?g-1 was achieved at 10C in the first cycle, and could be maintained at 181.4 mAh?g-1 after 300 times of cycling.

Superhydrophilic/Superhydrophobic Surface Constructions On Titanium And Their Effects On Anti-Bacterial Properties, Guo-Wei Wang, Qiao-Ling Huang, Ren Hu, Chang-Jian Lin, Hao Wang, Li-Hai Zhang, Pei-Fu Tang

The microbial infection of biomaterials often causes clinic problems and sometimes even leads to the prosthesis failure. It is, therefore, important to prevent the biomaterials from bacterial contamination. This can be done by using anti-bacteria drugs. However, this method causes physiological burdens to the patients and does not always work. To stop the contamination from the just beginning is believed to be a better choice. The first step for infection is the attachment of bacteria on the material. In this work, the thin TiO2 nanotubes array films were constructed with totally different wettabilities showing either superhydrophobic or superhydrophilic. The bacterial …

Photoelectrochemical Properties Of Tio_2 Nanoparticles, Jie Qu, Ying Li, Qi-Wei Jiang, Xue-Ping Gao

Journal of Electrochemistry

The protonated titanate nanoparticles were obtained at room temperature and subsequently calcined at different temperatures(300 ℃,400 ℃,500 ℃,600 ℃ and 700 ℃) in air.The obtained products were characterized by XRD,TEM and UV-Vis.It is found that the grain sizes of TiO2 nanoparticles calcined at 300 ℃ were about 20 nm,and increased gradually with the temperature rise.Photoelectric performance was measured with I~V curve and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS).The TiO2 nanoparticles obtained at 500 ℃ showed the best photoelectrochemical properties with a photovoltaic conversion efficiency of 6.39%,which is much higher than those at other temperatures. In addition,it is also demonstrated that the charge transfer resistance …
