Synthesis And Advanced Characterization Of Energy Materials, Erik Sarnello Jan 2022

Synthesis And Advanced Characterization Of Energy Materials, Erik Sarnello

Graduate Research Theses & Dissertations

Catalysts are used in an extremely broad range of systems including everything from biological systems to industrial processes. An ideal catalyst offers robust stability and high activity. This work focuses on the synthesis and characterization of materials that show promise in the field of catalysis. Advanced synchrotron characterization techniques and unique experimental design are highlighted to provide foundation work that will provide the necessary information to aid in designing and fabricating catalytic materials. Supported metal nanoparticle (SMN) catalysts are enormously crucial for many catalytic applications. However, catalyst deactivation, caused by sintering and coke formation, is a ubiquitous problem that significantly …

Investigation Of Spontaneously Patterned Nanoporous Organosilicate Thin Film Channels For Liquid Chromatography Applications., Ashwin Sanjay Bhaskaran Jan 2021

Investigation Of Spontaneously Patterned Nanoporous Organosilicate Thin Film Channels For Liquid Chromatography Applications., Ashwin Sanjay Bhaskaran

Graduate Research Theses & Dissertations

Microscale devices are attractive options for the advancement of biomedical engineering and life science. They have huge potential in the pharmaceutical and biomedical fields provided the critical factors such as device size, product purity and efficiency are not a hindrance. In most cases, traditional microelectronics fabrication processes are quite costly and complicated. By improving on them, their application in fields such as chemical sensing, detection and analysis is possible. By implementing this on a chip, we can reduce the cost and improve portability. This thesis focuses on the investigation of a novel class of spontaneously patterned nanoporous organosilicate nanoparticle-based films …

Fundamental Studies Of Chemical Stability And Carrier Process In Hybrid Perovskite Materials, Jue Gong Jan 2018

Fundamental Studies Of Chemical Stability And Carrier Process In Hybrid Perovskite Materials, Jue Gong

Graduate Research Theses & Dissertations

This dissertation comprehensively studies the optoelectronic properties of organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites to fundamentally answer their foundations of outstanding performance on solar cells, photodetectors, nanowire lasers and other optoelectronic applications. Specifically, a novel type of charge carrier-lattice interaction was discovered in perovskite methylammonium lead iodide (CH3NH3PbI3), where photoluminescence lifetime of photoinduced carriers is strongly dependent on the rotational frequency of CH3NH3+, as modulated via substitution of hydrogens with deuterium atoms in the organic cation. In addition, two-dimensional Ruddlesden-Popper perovskite (CH3NH3)2Pb(SeCN)2I2 was first synthesized and characterized in the field, and its photoluminescence properties were systematically examined. The existence of intensive photoluminescence peak …
