Structure, Neutrostructure, And Antistructure In Science, Florentin Smarandache Dec 2020

Structure, Neutrostructure, And Antistructure In Science, Florentin Smarandache

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

In any science, a classical Theorem, defined on a given space, is a statement that is 100% true (i.e. true for all elements of the space). To prove that a classical theorem is false, it is sufficient to get a single counter-example where the statement is false. Therefore, the classical sciences do not leave room for partial truth of a theorem (or a statement). But, in our world and in our everyday life, we have many more examples of statements that are only partially true, than statements that are totally true. The NeutroTheorem and AntiTheorem are generalizations and alternatives of …

Sum Of Cubes Of The First N Integers, Obiamaka L. Agu Dec 2020

Sum Of Cubes Of The First N Integers, Obiamaka L. Agu

Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations

In Calculus we learned that 􏰅Sum^{n}_{k=1} k = [n(n+1)]/2 , that Sum^{􏰅n}_{k=1} k^2 = [n(n+1)(2n+1)]/6 , and that Sum^{n}_{k=1} k^{3} = (n(n+1)/2)^{2}. These formulas are useful when solving for the area below quadratic or cubic function over an interval [a, b]. This tedious process, solving for areas under a quadratic or a cubic, served as motivation for the introduction of Riemman integrals. For the overzealous math student, these steps were replaced by a simpler method of evaluating antiderivatives at the endpoints a and b. From my recollection, a former instructor informed us to do the value of memorizing these formulas. …

Hamming Codes, Steve Mwangi, Sterling Quinn Nov 2020

Hamming Codes, Steve Mwangi, Sterling Quinn

Access*: Interdisciplinary Journal of Student Research and Scholarship

We will be looking into the application of Matrix Algebra in forming Hamming Codes. Hamming Codes are essential not just in the detection of errors, but also in the linear concurrent correction of these errors. The matrices we will use, will have entries that are binary units. Binary units are mathematically convenient, and their simplicity permits the representation of many open and closed circuits used in communication systems. The entries in the matrices will represent a message that is meant for transmission or reception, akin to the contemporary application of Hamming Codes in wireless communication. We will use Hamming (7,4) …

Combination Of The Single-Valued Neutrosophic Fuzzy Set And The Soft Set With Applications In Decision-Making, Florentin Smarandache, Ahmed Mostafa Khalil, Dunqian Chao, A. A. Azzam, W. Alharby Aug 2020

Combination Of The Single-Valued Neutrosophic Fuzzy Set And The Soft Set With Applications In Decision-Making, Florentin Smarandache, Ahmed Mostafa Khalil, Dunqian Chao, A. A. Azzam, W. Alharby

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

In this article, we propose a novel concept of the single-valued neutrosophic fuzzy soft set by combining the single-valued neutrosophic fuzzy set and the soft set. For possible applications, five kinds of operations (e.g., subset, equal, union, intersection, and complement) on single-valued neutrosophic fuzzy soft sets are presented. Then, several theoretical operations of single-valued neutrosophic fuzzy soft sets are given. In addition, the first type for the fuzzy decision-making based on single-valued neutrosophic fuzzy soft set matrix is constructed. Finally, we present the second type by using the AND operation of the single-valued neutrosophic fuzzy soft set for fuzzy decision-making …

From Branches To Fibers - Investigating F-Actin Networks With Biochemistry And Mathematical Modeling, Melissa A. Riddle May 2020

From Branches To Fibers - Investigating F-Actin Networks With Biochemistry And Mathematical Modeling, Melissa A. Riddle

Senior Honors Projects, 2020-current

F-actin networks have different structures throughout the cell depending on their location or mechanical role. For example, at the leading edge of a migrating cell, F-actin is organized in a region called the lamellipodia as a branched network responsible for pushing the membrane outwards. Behind the lamellipodia is a lamellar actin network where focal adhesions and stress fibers originate, and then within the cell cortex, actin is arranged in a gel-like network. Stress fibers are an important organization of F-actin and how they arise from either the branched lamellipodia network or the gel-like cortex network is poorly understood. Our approach …

Teaching And Learning Of Fluid Mechanics, Ashwin Vaidya Apr 2020

Teaching And Learning Of Fluid Mechanics, Ashwin Vaidya

Department of Mathematics Facuty Scholarship and Creative Works

Fluid mechanics occupies a privileged position in the sciences; it is taught in various science departments including physics, mathematics, environmental sciences and mechanical, chemical and civil engineering, with each highlighting a different aspect or interpretation of the foundation and applications of fluids. Doll’s fluid analogy [5] for this idea is especially relevant to this issue: “Emergence of creativity from complex flow of knowledge—example of Benard convection pattern as an analogy—dissipation or dispersal of knowledge (complex knowledge) results in emergent structures, i.e., creativity which in the context of education should be thought of as a unique way to arrange information so …

Evaluating An Ordinal Output Using Data Modeling, Algorithmic Modeling, And Numerical Analysis, Martin Keagan Wynne Brown Jan 2020

Evaluating An Ordinal Output Using Data Modeling, Algorithmic Modeling, And Numerical Analysis, Martin Keagan Wynne Brown

Murray State Theses and Dissertations

Data and algorithmic modeling are two different approaches used in predictive analytics. The models discussed from these two approaches include the proportional odds logit model (POLR), the vector generalized linear model (VGLM), the classification and regression tree model (CART), and the random forests model (RF). Patterns in the data were analyzed using trigonometric polynomial approximations and Fast Fourier Transforms. Predictive modeling is used frequently in statistics and data science to find the relationship between the explanatory (input) variables and a response (output) variable. Both approaches prove advantageous in different cases depending on the data set. In our case, the data …

Analysis On Sharp And Smooth Interface, Elizabeth V. Hawkins Jan 2020

Analysis On Sharp And Smooth Interface, Elizabeth V. Hawkins

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

In biology, minimizing a free energy functional gives an equilibrium shape that is the most stable in nature. The formulation of these functionals can vary in many ways, in particular they can have either a smooth or sharp interface. Minimizing a functional can be done through variational calculus or can be proved to exist using various analysis techniques. The functionals investigated here have a smooth and sharp interface and are analyzed using analysis and variational calculus respectively. From the former we find the condition for extremum and its second variation. The second variation is commonly used to analyze stability of …

Reduced Dataset Neural Network Model For Manuscript Character Recognition, Mohammad Anwarul Islam Jan 2020

Reduced Dataset Neural Network Model For Manuscript Character Recognition, Mohammad Anwarul Islam

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The automatic character recognition task has been of practical interest for a long time. Nowadays, there are well-established technologies and software to perform character recognition accurately from scanned documents. Although handwritten character recognition from the manuscript image is challenging, the advancement of modern machine learning techniques makes it astonishingly manageable. The problem of accurately recognizing handwritten character remains of high practical interest since a large number of manuscripts are currently not digitized, and hence inaccessible to the public. We create our repository of the datasets by cropping each letter image manually from the manuscript images. The availability of datasets is …
