Preliminary Groundwater And Salinity Investigation In The Eastern Wheatbelt. 1. Brennand's Catchment, Richard J. George Dr, P W C Frantom Jan 1990

Preliminary Groundwater And Salinity Investigation In The Eastern Wheatbelt. 1. Brennand's Catchment, Richard J. George Dr, P W C Frantom

Resource management technical reports

Groundwaters were found to be 10 m below the floor of the ancestral playa lake in Brennand's catchment. They were extremely saline. A groundwater flow system was not established on much of the catchment. Flow was observed to be occurring from recharge areas near the playa lakes towards the midslopes of the catchment. Flow was apparently restricted from leaving Brennand's catchment because of obstruction to groundwaters created by dolerite dykes.

Response By Stylosanthes Hamata And S. Scabra To Phosphate On Three Soils In The North-Kimberley Of Western Australia, A Mcr Holm, Mario F. D'Antuono Jan 1990

Response By Stylosanthes Hamata And S. Scabra To Phosphate On Three Soils In The North-Kimberley Of Western Australia, A Mcr Holm, Mario F. D'Antuono

Resource management technical reports

Legume herbage mass was maximized after two or three years application of 50 kg/ha double superphosphate for both Verano and Fitzroy on Red earth soils and for Fitzroy on Yellow lateritic soils. There was increased production of Verano up to the maximum fertilizer level. Both varieties responded in the second year to residual P following application in the first year but there were no responses in subsequent years.

Jerdacuttup Land Resource And Capability Study, Geoff Allan Moore, S T. Gee, D Vincent Jan 1990

Jerdacuttup Land Resource And Capability Study, Geoff Allan Moore, S T. Gee, D Vincent

Resource management technical reports

The Jerdacuttup catchment on the south coast of Western Australia has a number of significant land degradation problems. A soil-landform map of the catchment was produced at a scale of 1:50,000. The map units are a combination of landform and soil type. A land capability assessment was undertaken for five land uses; improved annual pastures, perennial pastures, lucerne, cereal cropping and lupins, using a five class classification.

Salinity And Waterlogging On The Esperance Downs Research Station, D J. Mcfarlane, A T. Ryder Jan 1990

Salinity And Waterlogging On The Esperance Downs Research Station, D J. Mcfarlane, A T. Ryder

Resource management technical reports

Details the situation on the station so that the demonstration and research programs can be designed and the effect of the treatments assessed. Past work on the station has been briefly summarised and the results of geophysical surveys and additional drilling are given. Surveys of electromagnetic terrain conductivities have shown where salinity is most serious at present. The most deeply penetrating method may have identified areas likely to developing salinity in future.

An Economic Model For Evaluating Strategies On The South Coast Of W.A. Which Reduce Wind Erosion : Documentation, A D. Bathgate Jan 1990

An Economic Model For Evaluating Strategies On The South Coast Of W.A. Which Reduce Wind Erosion : Documentation, A D. Bathgate

Resource management technical reports

The sandplain region on the south coast has predominately sandy soils which are subject to erosive winds when ground cover is likely to be scarce. This can often result in production losses of crop and pasture. There is concern that wind erosion will lead to the depletion of the soil resource in the long term. The model is multi-period linear programming with a planning horizon of 10 years. Effects of wind erosion on production can be imposed on the model for the first five years after the erosion event.

Busselton - Margaret River - Augusta Land Capability Study : Methodology And Results, Peter J. Tille, Neil Clifton Lantzke Jan 1990

Busselton - Margaret River - Augusta Land Capability Study : Methodology And Results, Peter J. Tille, Neil Clifton Lantzke

Resource management technical reports

A land unit map of the region has been prepared at a scale of 1:50,000. Additional maps of climate, surface and groundwater supplies and existing land use have also been prepared at smaller scales. The capability of each of the land units to support grazing, market gardens, vineyards, orchards and forestry has been assessed. The limitations for housing on small rural lots have also been evaluated. Describes the methods by which the survey was undertakenand will be primary of use to the technical user.

North Mullewa Research Station "Daisy Downs" Field Day, Peter Nelson Aug 1989

North Mullewa Research Station "Daisy Downs" Field Day, Peter Nelson

All other publications

NMRS (165 ha) was leased from "Daisy Downs" (Manager Mr Ken Thompson) in 1985. NMRS was established in response to famer and local goverment demand for more research on the shallow, heavy soils in a low rainfall area. It is run along similar lines to the East Chapman Research Station (ECRS), with large rotation paddocks (42 ha) set up to study farming systems the remainder of the leased area being used for general experimental purposes.

Forage Shrubs And Grasses For Revegetating Saltland, H V. Runciman, C V. Malcolm Aug 1989

Forage Shrubs And Grasses For Revegetating Saltland, H V. Runciman, C V. Malcolm

Bulletins 4000 -

Salt tolerant shrubs and grasses are used for forage production from salt-affected farmland. This Bulletin is designed to assist in recognition of the important species in Western Australia and to provide information on their use. The species listed have more forage value than some natural indicators and colonizers of saltland, such as Mediterranean barley grass (Hordeum geniculatum), ice plant (Mesembryanthemum spp.), mallee lovegrass (Eragrostisdielsii), salt spurry (Spergularia spp.), curly ryegrass (Parapholis incurva) and beard grass (Polypogon monspeliensis). Some of the plants are also useful for rehabilitating degraded rangeland and mine …

Replicated Single Row Evaluation., C. M. Saunders

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

Trial 89AB12

Great Southern Agricultural Institute - Paddock B15

This trial was of similar design to the single row evaluation, except four replications and pesticide treatments were also included.
However the trial had to be abandoned due to severe phytotoxic responses seen in the medics due to repeated spraying of 'Lorsban' (used at recommended rates).
Intended to repeat this work in 1990, bulk seed where possible and to eventually assess these lines, under such conditions, in large plots.

Pasture Deterioration Trial, J. W. Bowden, R. J. Lunt Jan 1989

Pasture Deterioration Trial, J. W. Bowden, R. J. Lunt

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

Trial 89NA61

Location: Duranillin

In this site we would expect a very large response (40 to 50% ) to phosphorus.

History:

The site was chosen because of the patchy and poor pasture production. The poor areas tend to have more suckling clover than the good areas. The pasture was legume dominant.

Treatments were applied on April 16, 1989.
