Compilation Of A Database Of Research Information On Legume Based Grazing Systems; A Part Of The Leggraze Research Project, J. J. Rochon, G. Molle, A. Hopkins, J. M. Greef

IGC Proceedings (1997-2023)

The establishment of a publicly accessible web-resident database of published and current European research on agronomy, animal production and environmental impact of legume based grazing systems is reported. This database facilitates the sharing of information among the partners of the "Low input animal production based on forage legumes for grazing systems" (Leggraze), a research project funded by the UE (QL K5 CT-2001-02328). It also forms an important tool for transferring the results of the project to the wider research community and to end users in the agricultural sector and to policy makers at national and community level.

An Evolutionary Approach To Crowdsourcing Mathematics Education, Spencer Ward May 2020

An Evolutionary Approach To Crowdsourcing Mathematics Education, Spencer Ward

Honors College

By combining ideas from evolutionary biology, epistemology, and philosophy of mind, this thesis attempts to derive a new kind of crowdsourcing that could better leverage people’s collective creativity. Following a theory of knowledge presented by David Deutsch, it is argued that knowledge develops through evolutionary competition that organically emerges from a creative dialogue of trial and error. It is also argued that this model of knowledge satisfies the properties of Douglas Hofstadter’s strange loops, implying that self-reflection is a core feature of knowledge evolution. This mix of theories then is used to analyze several existing strategies of crowdsourcing and knowledge …

Accessibility And Usability Of Government Websites In Tanzania, Joel S. Mtebe, Aron W. Kondoro Sep 2017

Accessibility And Usability Of Government Websites In Tanzania, Joel S. Mtebe, Aron W. Kondoro

The African Journal of Information Systems

The government of Tanzania has been embracing information systems specifically websites in order to widen access to government services, lower administrative costs, and to increase public participation in decision making. As a result, almost every ministry, department, and agency (MDA) has developed a website of different kind. However, the majority of existing websites were developed without sufficiently considering user needs which indicates that they do have some usability and accessibility problems. This study used SortSite tool to evaluate accessibility and usability of government websites taking a sample of 22 websites. The report from the SortSite tool was then checked against …

Optimizing Website Design Through The Application Of An Interactive Genetic Algorithm, Elijah Patton Mensch Jan 2016

Optimizing Website Design Through The Application Of An Interactive Genetic Algorithm, Elijah Patton Mensch

Senior Projects Spring 2016

The goal of this project was to determine the efficacy and practicality of “optimizing” the design of a webpage through the application of an interactive genetic algorithm. Software was created to display a “population” of mutable designs, collect user feedback as a measure of fitness, and apply genetic operations in an ongoing evolutionary process. By tracking the prevalence of design parameters over multiple generations and evaluating their associated “fitness” values, it was possible to judge the overall performance of the algorithm when applied to this unique problem space.

Evaluating Usability Evaluations, Allen Leo Dunlea Jun 2013

Evaluating Usability Evaluations, Allen Leo Dunlea

Master's Theses

We live in an age when consumers can now shop and browse the web using hand-held devices. This means that competitive companies need to have a website to represent their brand and to conduct business. E-commerce sites need to pay special attention to the usability of their sites, since it has such an impact on how potential costumers view their brand.

Jakob Nielsen defines usability as a "quality attribute that assesses how easy user interfaces are to use"; he separates usability into five quality components: learnability, efficiency, memorability, errors and satisfaction. The current standard for testing usability involves having …

Designing A Culturally Specific E-Learning Website, Penelope Mcfarlane Nov 2012

Designing A Culturally Specific E-Learning Website, Penelope Mcfarlane

Dr Penelope McFarlane

Western Universities have delivered subjects via a variety of means for years. Although business has explored the concept of different cultures requiring different interfaces on their web sites; little has been done to explore the impact of culture on e-learning. This paper explores the development of culturally specific e-learning web sites based in Australia but being delivered in Dubai. The theories of Geert Hofstede were used to explore the culture of Dubai. The web construct was based on St Amant’s work on culturally specific web sites. Computer science students were then surveyed to determine their reaction to the culturally specific …
