Alpha-Decay Properties Of Some Erbium Isotopes Near The 82-Neutron Closed Shell, Ronald D. Macfarlane, Roger D. Griffioen
University Faculty Publications and Creative Works
New alpha-emitting isotopes of erbium, lying near the 82-neutron closed shell, were produced by Nd142+O16 bombardments at incident energies up to 151 MeV. The nuclides studied and their alpha-decay properties are Nuclide Qα(MeV) Half-life Alpha branching ratio Er152 4.93±0.02 10.7±0.5 sec 0.90-0.20+0.05 Er153 4.80±0.02 36 ±2 sec 0.95-0.20+0.05 Er154 4.26±0.02 4.5±1.0 min... Alpha decay from erbium isotopes with Aobserved, indicating that the alpha-particle binding energies of these isotopes are considerably higher than those for the 84-, 85-, and 86-neutron isotopes. Alpha reduced widths, calculated from the results for Er152 and Er153, were found to be higher than the corresponding dysprosium, …
Some Quadrivalent Compounds Of Rhenium And Technetium Containing Fluorine, David E. Lavalle
Some Quadrivalent Compounds Of Rhenium And Technetium Containing Fluorine, David E. Lavalle
Masters Theses
The work in this laboratory was begun with the aim of producing pure K2ReF6, as a possible intermediate in the preparation of the lower fluorides of rhenium and as a "stand-in" for the preparation of K2TcF6. It meant, therefore, the preparation of the white form of K2ReF6 which both Weise and Peacock had described as the pure form of the compound.

Theses and Dissertations
I. The quinazolines, a branch of the benzodiazine class of aromatic nitrogen hetercycles, do not occur to any great extent in naturally occurring compounds. The discovery of the antimalarial febrifugine and its structure elucidation led to the preparation and investigation of a host of new quinazolines in the search for new and more effective antimalarials. Most of the present body of information governing the quinazolines arose out of these synthetic studies. The present study has been accomplished with a four-fold purpose in mind: (1) to investigate the susceptibility of chloroquinazolines to nucleophilic displacement reactions by thiols or their salts, (2) …
Energy Migration In Rare Earth Complexes, John Jerome Freeman
Energy Migration In Rare Earth Complexes, John Jerome Freeman
Chemistry and Chemical Biology ETDs
Complexes of trivalent samarium, europium, terbium, and dysprosium were prepared for investigations of the luminescence properties of complexed rare earth ions. Rare earth chilates derived from benzoylacetone, dibenzoylmethane, and acetylacetone; rare earth chlorides solvated with water and deuterium oxide; and rare earth oxides dissolved in sodium metaphosphate glasses were synthesized for these studies.

Nebraska Tractor Tests
EXPLANATION OF TEST REPORT GENERAL CONDITIONS East tractor is a production model equipped for common usage. Power consuming accessories can be disconnected only when it is convenient for the operator to do so in practice. Additional weight can be added as ballast if the manufacturer regularly supplies it for sale. The static tire loads and the inflation pressures muse conform to recommendations in the Tire Standards published by the Society of Automotive Engineers. PREPARATION FOR PERFORMANCE RUNS The engine crank case is drained and refilled with a measured amount of new oil conforming to specifications in the operator’s manual. The …

Decay Of Intensity Of Certain Hg Lines In An Hg-Ar Discharge, Edward E. Stepp, Richard A. Anderson
Decay Of Intensity Of Certain Hg Lines In An Hg-Ar Discharge, Edward E. Stepp, Richard A. Anderson
Physics Faculty Research & Creative Works
The afterglow of four mercury spectral lines was examined in a mercury-argon electric discharge. The 2537- Å line decays in a complex fashion with three definite modes of decay. The 4077-, 4358-, and 5461- Å lines exhibited an even more complicated decay. These lines exhibited an initial rapid decay followed by an increase in intensity. Finally the intensity of these lines went through two maxima before they decayed in intensity at a slow constant rate. The actual intensity behavior of the 2537- Å line was masked by the imprisonment of resonance radiation. It is postulated that the main processes governing …

Radiochemical Studies: Isotopic Exchange Reactions, Solvent Effects, Preparation And Properties Of Carrier-Free Amalgams, Hans L. Hamster
Chemistry and Chemical Biology ETDs
The work described in this section is concerned with the kinetics of an SN2 reaction, the isotopic exchange reaction between iodide ions and p-nitrobenzyl iodide, carried out in an aprotic solvent, acetone, in the presence of various substituted phenols and anisole. This reaction was carried out at concentration of potassium iodide low enough to insure the absence of ion pairs.

An Examination Of The Far Infrared Spectrum Of Hydrogen Fluoride, Arthur Allen Mason
An Examination Of The Far Infrared Spectrum Of Hydrogen Fluoride, Arthur Allen Mason
Doctoral Dissertations
Introduction: The absorption or emission of electromagnetic radiation from 15 μ to 1000 μ is caused by energy changes in the rotations or the skeletal vibrations of molecules. This wavelength range is known as the far infrared spectral region and has in recent years become the object of extensive experimental activity. Much of the activity may be attributed to an increased awareness of the need for information which cannot be obtained elsewhere; to improved instrumentation and techniques; and to a natural desire to bridge the gap between the infrared and the microwave regions.
A bibliography of the far infrared compiled …
