The Dynamics And Speciation Of Arsenic In Drinking Water Wells In Eastern Wisconsin, Evvan Plank
The Dynamics And Speciation Of Arsenic In Drinking Water Wells In Eastern Wisconsin, Evvan Plank
Theses and Dissertations
Arsenic typically develops in Eastern Wisconsin groundwater as a result of oxidation of sulfide bearing minerals in the limestone bedrock (Schreiber et al. 2000). Naturally occurring arsenic exists in groundwater as oxyanions which have two oxidation states, As(III) and As(V). Under ambient pH conditions As(V) is primarily present as an anion (i.e., H2AsO4-) while As(III) tends to be uncharged (i.e., H3AsO3), making it much more difficult to remove through the existing treatment techniques such as adsorption and reverse osmosis (RO). Although many studies exist establishing arsenic concentrations across Wisconsin, there is a lack of investigations into the concentrations of each …
Vegetation Land Cover/Use Dynamics And Their Effects In Mbulu And Karatu Districts In The North-Eastern Highlands Of Tanzania, Leonia John Raphael
Vegetation Land Cover/Use Dynamics And Their Effects In Mbulu And Karatu Districts In The North-Eastern Highlands Of Tanzania, Leonia John Raphael
International Journal of Geospatial and Environmental Research
Vegetation Land Cover/Land Use dynamics (VLC/LU) are the result of complex and compound interactions between the human (cultural, socioeconomic, and political) and the physical environment at different spatial scales. The present study assesses the spatial distribution of VLC/LU dynamics from 1987 to 2015 in the North-Eastern highlands of Tanzania using both qualitative (in-depth interviews and focus group discussions) and quantitative techniques (spatio-temporal analysis through GIS). The qualitative approach was used to elicit information on the main drivers of VLC/LU changes by land users as transitions occurred with time. The spatio-temporal analysis was used to assess the systematic vegetation land losses, …
Existence Of The Mandelbrot Set In The Parameter Planes Of Certain Rational Functions, Alexander Jay Mitchell
Existence Of The Mandelbrot Set In The Parameter Planes Of Certain Rational Functions, Alexander Jay Mitchell
Theses and Dissertations
In complex dynamics we compose a complex valued function with itself repeatedly and
observe the orbits of values of that function. Particular interest is in the orbit of critical
points of that function (critical orbits). One famous, studied example is the quadratic
polynomial Pc(z) = z^2 +c and how changing the value of c makes a difference to the orbit of the critical point z = 0. The set of c values for which the critical orbit is bounded is called
the Mandelbrot set.
This paper studies rational functions of the form Rn;a;c(z) = z^n + a/z^n + c and …
Predictability And Dynamics Of Warm-Core Mesoscale Vortex Formation With The 8 May 2009 "Super Derecho" Event, Caleb Todd Grunzke
Predictability And Dynamics Of Warm-Core Mesoscale Vortex Formation With The 8 May 2009 "Super Derecho" Event, Caleb Todd Grunzke
Theses and Dissertations
The predictability and dynamics of the warm-core mesovortex associated with the northern-flank of the 8 May 2009 “Super Derecho” event are examined by coupling the Advanced Research Weather Forecasting Model with the Data Assimilation Research Testbed facility. A 50-member convection-allowing EnKF ensemble was produced with 6 hourly-cycled analysis and assimilated observations. Cycled analysis started five days prior to 1200 UTC 7 May 2009, at which time the 36 h ensemble forecasts were launched.
The ensemble forecasts all attempted to produce a mesoscale convective system (MCS) but only fourteen percent produced a warm-core mesovortex-like feature similar to the intensity of the …
Multi-Periodic Climate Dynamics: Spectral Analysis Of Instrumental, Short- And Long-Length Proxy Temperature Records, Michael David Madsen
Multi-Periodic Climate Dynamics: Spectral Analysis Of Instrumental, Short- And Long-Length Proxy Temperature Records, Michael David Madsen
Theses and Dissertations
Analyzing 26 short-length (less than 3000 years) instrumental and proxy temperature records and five long-length (greater than 3000 years) proxy temperature records using Discrete Fourier Transform has shown that as the length of significant periods increase in the time domain then so does the power at which the period is observed. A t-test verifies that a positive correlation exist between the length of the significant periods and the power with a confidence level of ∝ >0.05. Significant frequencies with period greater than 30 years are confirmed using Monte Carlo simulations, which were created using a nonlinear approach known as fractional …
