Transcriptional And Antagonistic Responses Of Biocontrol Strain Lysobacter Enzymogenes Oh11 To The Plant Pathogenic Oomycete Pythium Aphanidermatum, Yangyang Zhao, Guoliang Qian, Yuan Chen, Liangcheng Du, Fengquan Liu
Transcriptional And Antagonistic Responses Of Biocontrol Strain Lysobacter Enzymogenes Oh11 To The Plant Pathogenic Oomycete Pythium Aphanidermatum, Yangyang Zhao, Guoliang Qian, Yuan Chen, Liangcheng Du, Fengquan Liu
Chemistry Department: Faculty Publications
Lysobacter enzymogenes is a ubiquitous, beneficial, plant-associated bacterium emerging as a novel biological control agent. It has the potential to become a new source of antimicrobial secondary metabolites such as the Heat-Stable Antifungal Factor (HSAF), which is a broad-spectrum antimycotic with a novel mode of action. However, very little information about how L. enzymogenes detects and responds to fungi or oomycetes has been reported. An in vitro confrontation bioassay between the pathogenic oomycete Pythium aphanidermatum and the biocontrol bacterial strain L. enzymogenes OH11 was used to analyze the transcriptional changes in the bacteria that were induced by the oomycetes. Analysis …
Interactions Of Zooplankton And Phytoplankton With Cyanobacteria, Rebecca Alexander
Interactions Of Zooplankton And Phytoplankton With Cyanobacteria, Rebecca Alexander
School of Natural Resources: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Cyanobacteria are a major concern in Nebraska reservoirs and are capable of producing toxins that can cause skin irritations and gastrointestinal problems, as well as affect the nervous system. It is important to determine the mechanisms that can cause cyanobacteria blooms due to the effect they can have on human health. The interaction of zooplankton and other phytoplankton groups with cyanobacteria is important because there is a biological component in surface waters that should be taken into consideration along with the physical and chemical parameters that have been noted to promote cyanobacteria. For example, zooplankton have the ability to alter …

Bear Behavior In The Vicinity Of Supplemental Feeding Stations In Western Washington, Dale L. Nolte, Timothy J. Veenendaal, Georg J. Ziegltrum, Philipp Fersterer
United States Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services: Staff Publications
Black bear can inflict severe negative Impacts on timber stands in the northwestern United States. A supplemental feeding program to provide bears an alternative food source during spring is practiced in the state of Washington, and to a lesser extent in other states. We initiated concurrent studies to assess characteristics of bear that forage at feeding stations, the interactions of bears around feeders, and impacts of the program on bear territories. Numerous bears fed at stations, including females with and without cubs, yearlings, and males. Bear feeding bouts at stations were generally short, less than 15 minutes. Bears generally fed …

Department of Statistics: Faculty Publications
Field records supplied by the American Simmental Association from 2-yr-old dams were used to study maternal grandsire • region of the U.S. and maternal grandsire • herd within region (herd/region) interactions. Regions were 1) Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota, 2) Kansas and Nebraska, 3) Texas and Oklahoma and 4) Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi. Analyses were conducted pairwise with respect to region with the following number of animals in each comparison: 1 (3,964) vs 2 (2,239), 1 (3,996) vs 3 (1,660), 1 (3,418) vs 4 (474), 2 (2,033) vs 3 (1,709), 2 (1,666) vs 4 (443) and 3 …
