Secure Authentication And Privacy-Preserving Techniques In Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (Vanets), Dakshnamoorthy Manivannan, Shafika Showkat Moni, Sherali Zeadally

Computer Science Faculty Publications

In the last decade, there has been growing interest in Vehicular Ad Hoc NETworks (VANETs). Today car manufacturers have already started to equip vehicles with sophisticated sensors that can provide many assistive features such as front collision avoidance, automatic lane tracking, partial autonomous driving, suggestive lane changing, and so on. Such technological advancements are enabling the adoption of VANETs not only to provide safer and more comfortable driving experience but also provide many other useful services to the driver as well as passengers of a vehicle. However, privacy, authentication and secure message dissemination are some of the main issues that …

Imaging Data On Characterization Of Retinal Autofluorescent Lesions In A Mouse Model Of Juvenile Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (Cln3 Disease), Qing Jun Wang, Kyung Sik Jung, Kabhilan Mohan, Mark E. Kleinman Oct 2020

Imaging Data On Characterization Of Retinal Autofluorescent Lesions In A Mouse Model Of Juvenile Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (Cln3 Disease), Qing Jun Wang, Kyung Sik Jung, Kabhilan Mohan, Mark E. Kleinman

Ophthalmology and Visual Science Faculty Publications

Juvenile neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis (JNCL, aka. juvenile Batten disease or CLN3 disease), a lethal pediatric neurodegenerative disease without cure, often presents with vision impairment and characteristic ophthalmoscopic features including focal areas of hyper-autofluorescence. In the associated research article “Loss of CLN3, the gene mutated in juvenile neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis, leads to metabolic impairment and autophagy induction in retinal pigment epithelium” (Zhong et al., 2020) [1], we reported ophthalmoscopic observations of focal autofluorescent lesions or puncta in the Cln3Δex7/8 mouse retina at as young as 8 month old. In this data article, we performed differential interference contrast and …

A Tree Frog (Boana Pugnax) Dataset Of Skin Transcriptome For The Identification Of Biomolecules With Potential Antimicrobial Activities, Yamil Liscano Martinez, Claudia Marcela Arenas Gómez, Jeramiah J. Smith, Jean Paul Delgado Oct 2020

A Tree Frog (Boana Pugnax) Dataset Of Skin Transcriptome For The Identification Of Biomolecules With Potential Antimicrobial Activities, Yamil Liscano Martinez, Claudia Marcela Arenas Gómez, Jeramiah J. Smith, Jean Paul Delgado

Biology Faculty Publications

Increases in the prevalence of multiply resistant microbes have necessitated the search for new molecules with antimicrobial properties. One noteworthy avenue in this search is inspired by the presence of native antimicrobial peptides in the skin of amphibians. Having the second highest diversity of frogs worldwide, Colombian anurans represent an extensive natural reservoir that could be tapped in this search. Among this diversity, species such as Boana pugnax (the Chirique-Flusse Treefrog) are particularly notable, in that they thrive in a diversity of marginal habitats, utilize both aquatic and arboreal habitats, and are members of one of few genera that are …

Unveiling The Molecular Mechanism Of Sars-Cov-2 Main Protease Inhibition From 137 Crystal Structures Using Algebraic Topology And Deep Learning, Duc Duy Nguyen, Kaifu Gao, Jiahui Chen, Rui Wang, Guo-Wei Wei

Mathematics Faculty Publications

Currently, there is neither effective antiviral drugs nor vaccine for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Due to its high conservativeness and low similarity with human genes, SARS-CoV-2 main protease (Mpro) is one of the most favorable drug targets. However, the current understanding of the molecular mechanism of Mpro inhibition is limited by the lack of reliable binding affinity ranking and prediction of existing structures of Mpro-inhibitor complexes. This work integrates mathematics (i.e., algebraic topology) and deep learning (MathDL) to provide a reliable ranking of the binding …

Rare Earth-Bearing Particles In Fly Ash Carbons: Examples From The Combustion Of Eastern Kentucky Coals, James C. Hower, John G. Groppo Jr. Sep 2020

Rare Earth-Bearing Particles In Fly Ash Carbons: Examples From The Combustion Of Eastern Kentucky Coals, James C. Hower, John G. Groppo Jr.

Center for Applied Energy Research Faculty and Staff Publications

Graphitic carbons from the combustion of bituminous coals and, perhaps, other coal ranks, tend to capture iron and a number of hazardous elements, including As, Hg, and Se. Rare earth elements in fly ashes occur in minerals, such as monazite, xenotime, and davidite. They also occur in sub-nm particles, probably in a mineral form, within the Al–Si glass on the investigated fly ashes. Just as graphitic carbons can capture Fe and hazardous elements, the carbons surrounding the fly ash glass and magnetic particles captures or encapsulates a broad suite of rare earth elements.
