In a combined experimental and theoretical study, we investigate the properties of Sr2Ir1−xRhxO4. From the branching ratios of the L-edge isotropic x-ray absorption spectra, we determine that the spin-orbit coupling is remarkably independent of x for both iridium and rhodium sites. DFT+U calculations show that the doping is close to isoelectronic and introduces impurity bands of predominantly rhodium character close to the lower Hubbard band. Overlap of these two bands leads to metallic behavior. Since the low-energy states for xjeff=1/2 character, we suggest that the electronic …
Production, Persistence And Diversity Of Species In Temperate Grasslands, Meredith L. Mitchell, Brendan P. Christy
Production, Persistence And Diversity Of Species In Temperate Grasslands, Meredith L. Mitchell, Brendan P. Christy
IGC Proceedings (1997-2023)
Temperate grassland areas are considered to be semi-arid, with rainfall typically between 250 and 500 mm, much of it occurring in the late spring and early summer. Grazing plays an important role in all these grasslands with impacts on diversity and persistence. Against this assumption that seasonal productivity would be more uniform within a pasture that was diverse, the research suggested that species rich pastures were less stable, because this species richness was composed of non-perennial, volunteer and weed species. This paper explores the concept that systems diversity of temperate grassland does not always equate to production. In these systems …

System And Process For Providing Auxiliary Information For A Packet-Switched Network Of Shared Nodes Using Dedicated Associative Store, Kenneth L. Calver, James N. Griffieon
Computer Science Faculty Patents
A system and process for providing auxiliary information about a distributed network of shared nodes, at least a plurality of the nodes being adapted for receiving at least one type of ESP-(associative ephemeral store processing) packet. Available for access at each of the plurality of ESP-adapted nodes is a dedicated associative store wherein a value, if bound to a tag, is only accessible as a bound (tag, value) pair for a short time period, τ. Different types of packets are contemplated for routing through the ESP-capable plurality of nodes such as those arbitrarily identified herein as a ‘first’ and ‘second’ …

Pumping Or Mixing System Using A Levitating Magnetic Element, Aexandre N. Terentiev
Physics and Astronomy Faculty Patents
A system capable of pumping or mixing relatively warm fluids using a rotating magnetic element or bearing levitated by a cold superconducting element is disclosed. The magnetic element or bearing carries at least one impeller and is placed in a fluid vessel positioned external to the outer wall of a cryostat or other housing for the superconducting element. A separate cooling source thermally linked to the superconducting element provides the necessary cooling to create the desired superconductive effects and induce levitation in the magnetic element or bearing. The outer wall or housing defines a chamber around the cold superconducting element …
