The sale is to be offered in 2000 and administered by the McCall Ranger District of the Payette National Forest. The Sloan-Kennally sale planning area is located approximately 15 miles southeast of McCall. Alternatives include No Action, the Proposed Action, and Alternative 3, no timber harvest in the roadless area. The preferred alternative is the proposed action, which would harvest timber on 571 acres using tractor and helicopter logging systems. The South Manti project area is located approximately 45 miles southwest of Price, Utah. The project area consists of approximately 24,597 acres of National Forest System lands within the southern portion of the Wasatch Plateau (Townships 19, 20, and 21 South; Range 4 East; SLM). This project was initiated in response to epidemic spruce beetle (Dendroctonus rufipennis) activity across the South Manti landscape. The climate of the Challis Resource Area is influenced primarily by maritime air carried eastward on prevailing westerly winds. General climatic characteristics are abundant sunshine, low humidity, and high evaporation. The major precipitation source, particularly for winter storms, is the Northern Pacific Ocean. In the summer, however, most of the thunderstorm activity is caused by moisture-laden air originating from the south, off the Pacific coast of Mexico.

The Jonah II Project area comprises approximately 59,600 acres of Federal, State, and private land ownership. Of this total, approximately 56,400 acres are BLM administered or 95 percent; 2,560 acres are State of Wyoming or 4 percent; and 640 acres are private surface/federal minerals, or 1 percent. The Targhee National Forest covers approximately 1.8 million acres (this includes the portion of the Caribou National Forest which is administered by the Targhee). The Greybull Valley Irrigation District proposes to construct an off-channel dam and reservoir to supply irrigation water to farmers in the lower Greybull River Valley. Three alternatives were evaluated: the proposal (Lower Roach Gulch Reservoir), the Blackstone Gulch Reservoir and the No Action Alternative. The Environmental Impact Statement discloses potential environmental impacts from implementation of the alternatives.
