Heat Source-Related Mechanisms And Genetic Modes For The Formation Of Hot Dry Rocks In The Reshuiwei Geothermal Field, Hunan Province, Du Jiang, Cai Ningbo, Zhang Baojian, Wang Keying, He Lihong, Liao Fengchu

Coal Geology & Exploration

Hot springs with temperatures exceeding 90℃ indicate that the Reshuiwei geothermal field in Hunan Province enjoys sound geothermal geological conditions, making this geothermal field a potential favorable area for hot dry rock (HDR) exploration. To carry out a reasonable evaluation of the geothermal reservoir and prospects for exploration and exploitation of HDRs in the Reshuiwei geothermal field in the Rucheng area, this study comprehensively analyzed the deep geological structures, geochemical characteristics, geophysical characteristics including gravity, magnetic, electrical, and seismic properties, and geothermal field characteristics of the geothermal field. Furthermore, it revealed the deep thermal structures of the geothermal field from …

Introduction. To reduce the stream of solid waste going to landfills, innovative means for beneficial use are essential. The diversity and volume of organic wastes pose singular problems and opportunities for recovery and circularity. Common processes for organics include conversion to biofuels and carbonization to biochar, typically done by torrefaction (dry pyrolysis). Research on biochar explores its potential as pollutant adsorbent, agricultural or polluted soil amendment, biofuel (directly or as feedstock), and for carbon sequestration (Ighalo et al., 2022; Cavali et al., 2023). Recently, other processes at lower temperatures such as hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) offer new possibilities (Seshadri et al., …

Research Progress Of Multi-Source And Multi-Stage Genesis Of Co2-Enriched Cbm And The Enlightenments For Its Exploration And Development, Tang Shuling, Tang Dazhen, Sun Bin, Tao Shu, Zhang Taiyuan, Pu Yifan, Zhang Aobo, Zhi Yuanhao

Coal Geology & Exploration

CO2-enriched coalbed methane(CBM) carries important geological information on CBM genesis and accumulation, and is closely related to the exploration and evaluation of CBM resources. On the basis of the systematic summary of the current research progress of CBM genesis, the current research status of the genetic mechanism of CO2-enriched CBM reservoirs was scientifically analyzed by dissecting the special geological examples of CO2-enriched CBM reservoirs in the southern Junggar Basin, and the problems in the research process of CBM genesis were comprehensively pointed out. The study shows that the generation of CBM has multiple sources …

Coal Geology & Exploration

In order to reveal the geochemical characteristics of shale and shale gas on the east edge of Ordos Basin, thin section identification, full rock and clay content, scanning electron microscope, organic carbon, rock pyrolysis, kerogen macerals, and kerogen carbon isotopes were tested, and the gas component and carbon isotopes composition of shale were analyzed. The results show that the mineral component of the transitional facies shale in Linxing area is mainly quartz and clay minerals, containing a small amount of calcite, plagioclase, potassium feldspar, dolomite and pyrite. Affected by the mineral genesis and deposition environment, different mineral components and organic …

Geochemical Characteristics And Genesis Of Coalbed Methane In Baode Area, Li Yangbing, Zeng Lei, Hu Weiqiang, Chen Xin, Ma Litao, Liu Cheng, Huang Ying, Qiao Fang

Coal Geology & Exploration

In order to find out the geochemical characteristics and origins of coalbed methane(CBM)in Baode area, coal, CBM and water samples were collected, gas component analysis, quality detection of CBM well-produced water and stable isotope analysis were carried out. The results show that CH4 is the main hydrocarbon gas in CBM composition and its volume fraction ranges from 88.60% to 97.59%; a small amount of ethane is contained, and the volume fraction is only 0.01%-0.14%. The drying coefficient is greater than 0.99, the CBM belongs to the extremely dry CBM. The non-hydrocarbon components mainly contain CO2 and N2 …

In order to deeply analyze the indication of oil shale development characteristics on paleoenvironments and provide theoretical guidance for oil shale resource evaluation, the organic geochemistry and elemental geochemistry characteristics of the Neogene Zhangcun Formation oil shale in the central part of the Qinshui basin were analyzed by Rock-Eval and TOC and the paleoclimate and paleogeographic environments of the depositional period were discussed as well. The results show that the oil shale of Zhangcun Formation has the low oil content which Tar=4.15%, higher hydrocarbon potential, kerogen is of sapropel type(I1), which has relatively shallow burial depth. The element …

Geochemical Characteristics Of Elements In The Paleogene Yunlong Formation And The Restoration Of Paleoenvironment In Lanping Basin, Liu Xiaokang, Zhang Zhibo, Zhu Zhijun, Wu Chuanfu, Wei Xingxing, Liu Haiyan, Jin Tengrui, Baima Quzong

Coal Geology & Exploration

In order to restore the sedimentary environment of the Paleogene Yunlong Formation in the Lanping basin, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(ICP-MS) was used to analyze trace elements in 13 samples of gypsum, limestone, gypsum mud, mudstone and sandstone from the Paleogene Yunlong Formation in Lanping Basin. The sedimentary environments and paleoclimate are estimated based on the spider diagram of trace elements in each lithology and the characteristics of the ratio of Cu/Zn, Sr/Cu and Sr/Ba and the content of Sr. The results show that:gypsum, limestone, gypsum mud, mudstone and sandstone are all rich in Rb, Pb, Zr; gypsum and gypsum …

Bette And Will White Oral History Interview With Spencer Fleury And Todd Chavez, July 25, 2007, Elizabeth L. White (Interviewee), William B. White (Interviewee), Spencer Fleury (Interviewer), Todd Chavez (Interviewer)

Environmental Sustainability Oral Histories

The Drs. White take turns discussing how they became interested in karst science. They reflect on the days when public opinion marginalized karst science and offer what they perceive as the historical factors which have allowed it to become established as a stand-alone scientific discipline. They then discuss students who have worked with them on various karst projects. Dr. Will White tells the story of the haunted telephone from Crystal Cave in Kentucky. The interviewees then discuss the relationship between professional karst scientists and the amateur, recreational caving community. They also discuss the future of karst science specifically with relation …
