Medic Inoculation Experiments., D. L. Chatel

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

Inoculation trials conducted at Merredin Research Station and Merredin Research Station lease block. 1. To test the field effectiveness of promising strains of Rhizobium meliloti and to compare them with standard strains. 2. To examine the performance in subsequent years of R. meliloti as colonizers of acid soils. The new strains included in this experiment represent promising isolates from acid soils in Sardinia. Their ability to persist will be determined by second and third year nodulation assessments. 3. To compare the performance of Medicago murex with previously used medic hosts under acid conditions. 4. To assess the effect of lime …

Aerial Spraying Trial., G A. Pearce Jan 1981

Aerial Spraying Trial., G A. Pearce

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

Conclusions 1. The volume of application with water affected the results obtained. The visual results of Treatment 1 suggested it was not an acceptable commercial result and the plant counts support this conclusion. Treatments 2 and 3 looked very similar and were very similar and were very acceptable results. 2. The height of spraying affected the results in that where the plane had to start climbing to pass over trees, the effectiveness dropped off. 3. Spray drift could be a problem because of the risk of causing damage to trees and native vegetation. Severe damage was seen on trees at …

The Effect Of Soil Acidity On Crop And Pasture Production., W Porter, R Klemm Jan 1981

The Effect Of Soil Acidity On Crop And Pasture Production., W Porter, R Klemm

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

SUMMARY The effects of lime and molybdenum applications on wheat and subterranean Clover were studied further. Wheat. In relation to lime use, my aim is to develop soil tests to be used to predict when a soil requires lime to produce maximum yield, and to predict the optimum rate of lime. Using the results from field trials commenced in 1980 and 1981 the soil parameters which may be used to predict lime responses in wheat have been narrowed down. From the relationships between soil data and lime responses it appears that soil ph (measured in 1:5 H20 or 1:5 N …

History Of The State Vermin Barrier Fences, Formerly Known As Rabbit Proof Fences, J S. Crawford Jan 1969

History Of The State Vermin Barrier Fences, Formerly Known As Rabbit Proof Fences, J S. Crawford

Research Reports

There is evidence of rabbits arriving in Australia as far back as 1788, and it is well known that others were liberated on islands around the coast, including some off the coast of Western Australia. However, they remained localised and it is now generally accepted that the rabbits which did spread originated from a small shipment of the wild type brought on the Clipper “Lightning” in 1859. They were released on “Barwon Park”, the property of Thomas Austin, near Geelong in Victoria, and within three years, had reached pest proportions
