Cadmium is produced solely as a by-product and all cadmium of commerce is obtained from zinc ores. It is a rare occurrence when zinc deposits are found which do not contain some cadmium.

Measurements of reflectivity of opaque ore minerals can be made with the common photographic light meter and a standard reflecting microscope, both of which are available to most Geology laboratories. During the course of the investigation, approximately 30 minerals were examined, of which 10 were duplicates. Comparable results, for the most part within 3% of previously determined valued, were obtained.

The phys­ical and chemical tendencies of metals in the liq­uid condition must be ascertained before a metal in this form can be put to practical usage. In very many stages of mineral processing and recovery, in molten-metal baths for temperature control on heat treating, and in several industries where heat transfer is an important aspect, metals may be at one time or another in a liquid condition.

The oldest system in which identifiable invertebrate fossils have been found is the Cambrian. The basal Cambrian formation found in Montana is the Flathead sandstone and quartzite of Middle Cambrian age. No fossils have been reported from this formation. Above the Flathead is the Wolsey formation composed of green fissile shale with sandy and limy members. This fossiliferous member of the Middle Cambrian is known in Northwestern Montana as Gordon, and in the Philipsburg quadrangle as the Silver Hill formation.

The purpose of this thesis is to record and discuss the results of tests conducted, at the Montana School of Mines, in which pyrite concentrates from the Concentrator Department of the Anaconda Reduction Works, Anaconda, Montana, were subjected to the reducing effects of natural gas at elevated temperatures in an endeavor to produce iron in the metallic form.

"Limestones or shaly limestones, from four stratigraphic levels in the Cherokee group (Desmoinesian series) of Missouri and Kansas, contain eight species and two varieties of fusulinid foraminifera, of which four species and two varieties are new, and one ophthalmidiid foraminiferal species (Hemigordius cf. regularis Plummer). The next to highest limestone (cap rock of the Fleming coal) is correlated with the Seahorne limestone of western Illinois, the Stonefort limestone of southern Illinois, and the Munterville limestone of Iowa. "Fossil Radiolaria are described and figured from the Porters Creek formation (Paleocene) of Ardeola, Stoddard County Missouri. This is the first detailed treatment of fossil radiolarians from the Gulf Coast area. Thirty-one species are described and figured, all believed to be new, belonging to twenty-four genera. Fifteen families are represented, ten referable to the Legion Spumellaria, five to the Legion Nassellaria. The mines at San Jose which are within the Wadley unit are the largest antimony mines in Mexico. These mines produce more than half of the antimony produced by the company from its mining operations. Since the time of the author's connection with the company, a number of changes have been made in planning of development work, handling of labor, methods of mine development, cost improvement, and other problems inherent in the successful guidance of an operation.
