Uneven deployment and environment constraint leads to the formation of a spatially separated wireless sensor network (SS-WSN). Most of the traditional WSN architectures consist of static nodes that are densely deployed over a sensing area and are fully connected. SS-WSN is a group of disjoint subnetworks where connectivity is generally maintained by energy rich mobile nodes (ERMN), which roam about from one subnetwork to another. This paper presents a seamless wireless extension approach to a KNX-based home automation system. The system consists of gateway and switch units specifically designed for this purpose. The gateway acts as the coordinator of the wireless network and a bridge between wireless and KNX networks. Switch units can be operated by a power outlet or battery. With the proposed architecture, it is possible to extend functionality of the KNX to wireless nodes, which consume very low power when they are operated by battery. Solar-powered irrigation systems are becoming increasingly widespread. However, the initial setup costs of these systems are very high. To reduce these costs, both the energy usage and the prevention of losses from irrigation systems are very important. In this study, a drip irrigation control system of 1000 dwarf cherry trees was controlled using soil moisture sensors in order to prevent excessive water consumption and energy losses in a solar-powered irrigation system. As the usage and development of wireless sensor networks increases, problems related to these networks are being discovered. Dynamic deployment is one of the main issues that directly affect the performance of wireless sensor networks. In this paper, an artificial bee colony algorithm is applied to the dynamic deployment of mobile sensor networks to gain better performance by trying to increase the coverage area of the network. The good performance of the algorithm shows that it can be utilized in the dynamic deployment of wireless sensor networks.
