Internal Pressure And Related Physical Properties, Eugene Ceperley
Internal Pressure And Related Physical Properties, Eugene Ceperley
Bachelors’ Theses
What is internal pressure? That question has never been answered in a satisfactory manner. Probably the best answer is the simple statement that it is a measure of the attraction between molecules. While this is true it gives no indication of what causes the attractive force or of the effects which this attraction has on a substance.
In this thesis an attempt will be made to use this vague definition of internal pressure to find a method of calculating internal pressure using data for various physical properties. The liquid state of various substances will be considered. A relationship which holds …

Cyclic Derivatives Of Tris (Hydroxymethyl) Aminomethane : Monourethans And Ureas, Julian Lee Rush Jr.
Master's Theses
The purpose of the work reported in this thesis was to study the chemistry of tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane (A), H2Nc(cH20H) 3, a beta-hydroxy amine.
An Analysis Of The Oil Of Echinocystis Fabacea Seeds, Francis Warren Sayre
An Analysis Of The Oil Of Echinocystis Fabacea Seeds, Francis Warren Sayre
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Echinocystis fabaceae, commonly called “Man Root” because of the peculiar shape of the root, not unlike that of a man, finds abundant occurrence in the central valleys of California. This plant, a member of the wild cucumber family, is of particular interest because it is an oilseed plant. The variety agrestis is especially common around Stockton. Other varieties are found throughout the Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys and in the Coast Range Mountains.
Oils have played an important part throughout history and are continuing to do so in our present economy. An investigation of the oils of Echinocystis fabaceae seeds …
The Polarographic Determination Of Germanium, Herbert L. Bowkley
The Polarographic Determination Of Germanium, Herbert L. Bowkley
Masters Theses
"The purpose of this investigation was to study the polarographic behavior of germanium in various aqueous solutions. In addition to the simple polarographic behavior of germanium some attention was given to the applications or polarography for the development of an anlytical [sic] procedure for its quantitative determination in zinc ore concentrates and spelter fume materials"--Introduction, page 1.

Proper Mixtures Of Ellis County Soils For Adobe Construction, And Their Physical Properties Part Ii, Buster Wayne Read, W. G. Read, H. A. Zinszer
Fort Hays Studies Series
Houses made of soil have been built for centuries, but until recently the trend had been away from soil to some other building material. Now, however, adobe is again beginning to be recognized as a satisfactory, reliable building material for our time.

Attempted Separation Of Similar Ionic Species By Means Of Paper Chromatography, Alexander Beresniewicz
Attempted Separation Of Similar Ionic Species By Means Of Paper Chromatography, Alexander Beresniewicz
Bachelors’ Theses
Chromatosraphy is a comparatively new analytical method which deals mainly with the separation of similar organic compounds. Until now, only a few papers have been published on inorganic paper chromatography. Up to the present time no investigator has made a serious attempt to organize and systematize the large amount of available information in order to clarify the underlying principles.
The author has attempted to investigate the influence of the charge of similar inorganic ions on their separation. In the case of adsorption chromatography, it may generally be stated that ions with higher valence are more readily adsorbed. Such a statement …
Radioactive Carbon Labeled Molecules: A Method Of Synthesis, Glen E. Benedict
Radioactive Carbon Labeled Molecules: A Method Of Synthesis, Glen E. Benedict
Masters Theses
"Use of isotopic carbon in determining organic reaction mechanisms is becoming more popular daily. The reasons for this trend are, the increasing availability of intermediate compounds, the increase in isotope handling knowledge, and mechanisms defined by well ordered tracer reactions are considered infallible.
The mechanism of reaction of halo-epoxides has been a point of conjecture for some time"--Introduction, page 1.
Intermediate Compounds In The Synthesis Of Lignin, Paul Spencer Gakle
Intermediate Compounds In The Synthesis Of Lignin, Paul Spencer Gakle
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The synthesis of a keto-aldehyde from salicylaldehyde and benzaldehyde was attempted. The first step was to protect the carbonyl with a non-reactive group.
The bisulfite addition product and the 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazone of salicylaldehyde were prepared. The methyl acetal, the sodium bisulfite addition product, and the 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazone of benzaldehyde were also prepared.
The bisulfite addition of both aldehydes was found to be too unstable in the presence of aldehyde was recovered in each case. The methyl acetyl chloride also decomposed. This necessitated finding a more stable group to protect the aldehyde.
The 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazone was unaffected by treatment with anhydrous aluminum chloride in …
