Device-Based Measures Of Maternal Physical Activity, Pregnancy Nocturnal Glucose, Postpartum Sleep, And Infant Adiposity, Bethany R. Hallenbeck
Device-Based Measures Of Maternal Physical Activity, Pregnancy Nocturnal Glucose, Postpartum Sleep, And Infant Adiposity, Bethany R. Hallenbeck
Doctoral Dissertations
This dissertation presents physical activity, sedentary behavior, and bedrest (sleep estimation) data from ActiGraph devices worn during pregnancy and postpartum. Analyses of these data consider how these behaviors may relate to each other and health outcomes in the mother and child. The research aims to bridge the gap in understanding the intricate relationship between physical activity health behaviors and maternal and infant health metrics during the critical phases of pregnancy and postpartum. For this work, we employed repeated measures mixed modelling and integrated device-based, research-grade, ActiGraph data with clinical measures and survey responses to elucidate the multifaceted dynamics influencing a …
Exploring Usability In Exercise Interventions: From Conceptualization To Measurement And Application, Anne Inger Mørtvedt
Exploring Usability In Exercise Interventions: From Conceptualization To Measurement And Application, Anne Inger Mørtvedt
Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports
Exercise interventions hold promise for preventing and treating numerous conditions, diseases, and injuries. However, these interventions will only be effective if they are being used. Unfortunately, uptake and adherence to prescribed exercise and physical activity guidelines are insufficient. Some reasons for this include lack of knowledge, resources, flexibility, and enjoyment. Exercise program developers need to not only consider the effectiveness of the program during the development phase, but also involve end-users and receive feedback on program usability to determine likelihood of uptake and adoption. Usability testing can be used to detect barriers to use and implementation likelihood but has not …
A Phenomenological Photovoice Exploration Of Female Exercisers’ Experiences Of Their Body In Fitness Center Environments, Katherine E. Fairhurst
A Phenomenological Photovoice Exploration Of Female Exercisers’ Experiences Of Their Body In Fitness Center Environments, Katherine E. Fairhurst
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports
For many women, the relationship with their body and exercise is complex. Exercise can have positive effects on body image, however, not all women appear to benefit positively from all types of exercise. To date, body image research has focused on exercise as an activity and less so on the context in which exercise is performed. Women frequently exercise in fitness centers as young adults which, unfortunately, is associated with body dissatisfaction. Using an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) approach with Photovoice methodology, we explored young adult women’s lived body experiences while exercising in fitness centers. A purposive sample of 11 …
The Effects Of Whole Body High-Intensity Interval Training On Collegiate Female Soccer Players 2016, Whitney Frary
The Effects Of Whole Body High-Intensity Interval Training On Collegiate Female Soccer Players 2016, Whitney Frary
Master's Theses
Soccer is considered a high intensity sport that requires a high level of both aerobic and anaerobic fitness. A whole body high-intensity interval training adaptation has been shown to benefit both of these systems over a short period of time. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a five week whole-body high intensity interval training program on female collegiate soccer players performance in speed, acceleration, agility, vertical jump, aerobic capacity, physical self perception, and physical enjoyment. Participants were from the SUNY Cortland women’s soccer team who participated in a five- week training protocol three days a …
