How We Debrief: An Interpretive Description Of Social Service Community Workers' Experiences, Andrea C. Krywucky Feb 2023

How We Debrief: An Interpretive Description Of Social Service Community Workers' Experiences, Andrea C. Krywucky

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

The aim of this research was to understand current practices of debriefing being used or not used in community social service organizations and the presumed frameworks or evidence justifying these practices in London, Ontario. The geographical area under concern has seen an increasing poverty gap, lack of affordable housing, toxic drug crisis, with mental health issues being exasperated by the pandemic. Social service agencies are overwhelmed with caseloads, creating an increase in need of care for frontline workers, as they are the first point of contact for many. This research utilized an interpretive description methodology to explore workers’ experiences and …

Development Of A Multi-Factorial Data Quality Score For Primary Care Electronic Medical Records, Kathryn Stirling Jun 2022

Development Of A Multi-Factorial Data Quality Score For Primary Care Electronic Medical Records, Kathryn Stirling

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

As healthcare providers transitioned from paper-based records to electronic medical records (EMRs), researchers gained access to more patient and care data, with greater detail. Current research regarding Canadian primary care EMR data suggests the quality of data is variable. For researchers who wish to use EMR data, it is important to have a method of evaluating data quality that is applicable to multiple EMR datasets so research quality can be assured. There is currently no unified scoring system for primary care EMR data. This thesis built on previous EMR data quality research by developing and testing a composite measure of …

Improving Developing Countries’ Health Information Systems Capacity For Infectious Disease Pandemic Responses: A Case Study Of The Ebola Virus Disease And The Coronavirus Disease Pandemics, Uche Ikenyei Dec 2021

Improving Developing Countries’ Health Information Systems Capacity For Infectious Disease Pandemic Responses: A Case Study Of The Ebola Virus Disease And The Coronavirus Disease Pandemics, Uche Ikenyei

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

There is increasing evidence to demonstrate that current information system theoretical models meant to assess the success of the health information systems (HIS) lack the applicable theoretical underpinning suitable for developing countries. This stems partly from a theory-evidence gap where theoretical models developed in the West are applied in developing country contexts but lack tailoring to localized, contextual realities. Therefore, this study addresses this gap by enhancing the DeLeon and McLean's information system success model with six contextual factors peculiar to the infectious disease HISs in a developing country context.

This study took place in two developing countries, Liberia and …

Working With Youth As Stakeholders In Mental Health System Transformation: An Institutional Ethnography Of A Service Organization In Access Open Minds, Eugenia Canas Jun 2019

Working With Youth As Stakeholders In Mental Health System Transformation: An Institutional Ethnography Of A Service Organization In Access Open Minds, Eugenia Canas

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

As national system- and research-agendas invest heavily in the improvement of youth mental health services delivery, the discursive and policy impetus for the inclusion of youth as advisors has increased. However, we know little about the work of youth engagement (YE) in the everyday realities of a care-delivery organization. Does the engagement of youth advisors ultimately inform care?

This dissertation addresses the knowledge concerns of YE with a detailed account of the experiences of youth advisors, service providers, and an organization in the process of services reform. I used institutional ethnography to (1) reveal the day-to-day work of engaging young …

Improving The Use Of Electronic Medical Records In Primary Health Care: A Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis, Noura Hamade Feb 2017

Improving The Use Of Electronic Medical Records In Primary Health Care: A Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis, Noura Hamade

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Electronic Medical Records were first introduced in the 1970s to organize patient information, improve coordination of care, and improve communication. The purpose of this systematic review was to identify interventions aimed at improving EMR use in primary health care settings. Of 2,098 identified studies twelve were included in the review. Results showed that interventions focused on the use of EMR functions were five times more likely to show improvements in EMR use compared to controls. Interventions focused on data quality were five and a half times more likely to show improvements in EMR use compared to controls. Individuals in primary …

Visualizing And Interacting With Social Determinants Of Health, Moutasem Zakkar Jun 2016

Visualizing And Interacting With Social Determinants Of Health, Moutasem Zakkar

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the use of information visualization to represent specific social determinants of health, and to examine the benefits of such representation for health policymaking. Methods: The study developed a prototype for a visualization tool (www.healthvisualization.ca), which represents the conceptual framework for the social determinants of health (CSDH) and new ways to represent related health equity indicators. This tool was used by study participants. The experience of these participants and the usability of the tool were evaluated using qualitative semi-structured interviews. Results: Visualizing the CSDH framework helps to present the social …
