Problem: This project aimed to enhance non-clinical staff knowledge of sepsis through a targeted awareness campaign, while also seeking to uphold or enhance the organization's sepsis-related performance.

Context: Clinical Nurse Leader students conducted a microsystem assessment in five crucial non-clinical departments of an urban Bay Area hospital, each playing a vital role in the organization's efficiency at different levels.

Intervention: During Sepsis Awareness Month, a sepsis awareness campaign was implemented. This involved a concise presentation on sepsis, its consequences, and the significance of awareness in each department. Additionally, informational fliers detailing sepsis signs and symptoms were distributed.

Problem: Frequently, communication from the Quality Department (QD) needs to be filtered through several organizational layers without first-hand knowledge of what message was given to frontline staff. Current mechanisms of communication between the QD and front-line microsystem teams have barriers preventing them from being consistent and reliable.

Context: Research has found that collaborating with and supporting frontline staff was key to establishing a culture that supports change and a focus on safety. Problem. Transformational leadership (TL) represents the gold standard of leadership styles in contemporary healthcare organizations. The transformational leader's ability to motivate, influence, stimulate, inspire, and attend to followers' individual needs is an antecedent to job satisfaction, quality, and patient safety. The project aimed to improve TL constructs among frontline leaders (managers and assistant nurse managers). Based on the results of a needs assessment, these frontline leaders were provided an opportunity to improve their TL style.

Aim: This paper summarizes the project development, implementation and outcomes of an Assistant Nurse Manager leadership laboratory program and elements involved in the coursework. Through lecture, simulation, and mentoring components, noted change in leadership ability of novice/advanced beginner Assistant Nurse Managers were assessed over a six-month period and monitored the effects on quality and financial metrics, as well as the self-confidence of the Assistant Nurse Managers. Evaluation conducted included both quantitative and qualitative outcome assessment.
