A cesarean section is a major abdominal surgery with a unique recovery profile. The patient must recover from surgery while simultaneously coping with a major life event: the birth of a new baby. Abstract

Background: The functioning of neonatal delivery teams can be affected by technical and non-technical skills of individual team members. The team in this project was challenged by varying knowledge and skill levels and did not have a standardized process for debriefing resuscitation events. The literature shows that debriefings can aid in improving knowledge, skills, teamwork, and communication of resuscitation teams.

Purpose: The purpose of this quality improvement project was to implement a scripted, post-resuscitation debriefing with the neonatal delivery team to improve non-technical skills of the resuscitation team and identify challenges to providing optimal care.

Background: There is increasing awareness of the contribution of the neonatal intensive care (NICU) environment and the importance of developmental care (DC) interventions to long-term outcomes in high-risk infants. Care at the project site reflected that given at many hospitals, where positive sensory experiences and negative sensory mitigation are done but inconsistently. The purposes of this dissertation were to examine trends from 2008 to 2014 in mental health and substance use disorders and treatment receipt, and explore factors associated with treatment receipt in pregnant women aged 18-44 years in the United States. A systematic review showed that illicit drug use disorder increased in pregnant women over the past decade. Despite the increase in treatment admissions for these disorders from 1992 to 2012, the overall treatment admission rate for pregnant women remained relatively stable (4%).
