Evaluating The Impact Of Software Distortion Correction On Target Doses In Cranial Stereotactic Radiosurgery, Sharjil Shamim, Zachary Seymour

Posters

INTRODUCTION
Brainlab’s Elements suite proposed a novel MR distortion correction method based on CT imaging. This involves registration of sub-volumes from MR imaging to generate single continuous deformation field maps, creating a corrected MR image set. No literature currently exists studying the impact of software correction on target dose for cranial stereotactic radiosurgery. In this study, we aim to evaluate the impact of Brainlab distortion correction on radiation target dose compared to original treatment plans without distortion correction.

Identifying Discrepancies In Diagnosis Of Pcos With Use Of Different Diagnostic Criteria, Naveena Daram, Sangeeeta Kaur

Posters

INTRODUCTION
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder in women of reproductive age. Two main diagnostic criteria are used for PCOS: the Rotterdam and Androgen Excess Society (AES) criteria. Depending on which criteria is used, the diagnosis of PCOS may change. Therefore, our study investigates the discrepancies in the diagnosis of PCOS when using the Rotterdam versus the AES scale in the Beaumont Health System. This is clinically significant because a PCOS diagnosis should not be made lightly as it can come with many lifelong social, emotional, and medical implications.

Assessing The Prevalence Of Sport-Induced Urinary Incontinence And Its Emotional Impact On Female Gymnasts, Nikta Rezakahn Khajeh, Kenneth M. Peters

Posters

INTRODUCTION
Female gymnasts put strain on their pelvic floor muscles with high impact exercises that increase their susceptibility for stress urinary incontinence (SUI). Moreover, they refrain from seeking medical attention because of embarrassment. This project seeks to quantify the prevalence of SUI in female gymnasts while also influencing conversation about SUI in the gymnastics community to alleviate its stigma. We hypothesize there to be a high prevalence of SUI in young female gymnasts compared to nonathletic females.

INTRODUCTION
High frequency percussive ventilation (HFPV) is a novel immobilization technique that utilizes high frequency low tidal volume ventilation to produce endotracheal percussion. In a previous departmental study of chest wall motion immobilization, it was found that volunteers were able to tolerate HFPV for varying lengths of time – from a few to tens of minutes. By investigating a novel process to immobilize the chest wall, and thus thoracic tumors, it can allow for more localized radiation delivery and reduction of healthy tissue irradiation.

INTRODUCTION
The current study will explore the relationships between motor imitation (MI) and verbal requesting skills in children who are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). With nearly half of children with ASD evidencing minimal verbal skills, supporting language development is crucial in interventions. Early, intensive behavioral intervention (EIBI) is recommended to help children achieve better developmental outcomes. Functional language training often begins with the verbal requesting skill, MAND. Research suggests that a series of rapid motor imitations before a vocal model could facilitate vocal speech, but little is known about how MI can longitudinally influence functional language development. This …

The Divergence Of Medical Ethics And State Laws Regarding Life Sustaining Treatment, Hannah Vandusen, Jason A. Wasserman May 2022

The Divergence Of Medical Ethics And State Laws Regarding Life Sustaining Treatment, Hannah Vandusen, Jason A. Wasserman

Posters

INTRODUCTION
Research reveals that cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) rarely leads to prolonged survival in patients with chronic illnesses in whom death is expected in the relative near-term. There is strong ethical consensus favoring a physician’s right to refuse to provide CPR when it is physiologically futile or medically inappropriate. State laws governing medical treatment, however, sometimes diverge from this guidance. This study examines laws related to life sustaining treatment, analyzing both physician and surrogate authority in decision making about resuscitation orders in the national context.

INTRODUCTION
Aortic stenosis is a progressive narrowing of the aortic valve that can cause serious cardiovascular harm such as syncope, heart failure, and death if left untreated. Transfemoral-transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TF-TAVR) emerged in the last 10 years as an alternative for previously inoperable, high-risk patients. Studies suggest that monitored anesthesia for TF-TAVR using minimalist conscious sedation results in better outcomes (e.g., shorter length of stay, lower 30-day mortality) when compared to general anesthesia. However, there is a gap in knowledge of why conscious sedation is more successful. Recent studies have demonstrated the association of intraoperative mean arterial pressure (MAP) …
