Conference Presentation Abstracts

Purpose: The etiology of lower urinary tract symptoms secondary to benign prostatic hyperplasia (LUTS/BPH) remains uncertain. The purpose of our study was to quantitatively analyze pelvic anatomic characteristics on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to assess for independent factors for symptoms.
*Methods and Materials: This retrospective single-institution study evaluated treatment-naïve men who underwent prostate MRI within 3 months of International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) from June 2021 to February 2022. Factors measured on MRI included: detrusor muscular ring surrounding the bladder neck measured as area and alternatively diameter, central gland (CG) mean apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), levator hiatus (LH) volume, intrapelvic …

Case Discussion: 66-Year-Old Man With Low-Volume Prostate Cancer, Jason M. Hafron

Articles

An interview with Michigan Institute of Urology's Doctor Jason M. Hafron is presented. He presents a case of a 66-year-old male with low-volume prostate cancer to discuss his possible prognosis and the risk group he should be categorized. He explains his preferred approach to treat the patient like ordering a bone scan, computed tomography (CT) of the chest, abdomen and pelvis, and germline testing. He recommends some treatments for metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer (CSPC).

Assessing The Prevalence Of Sport-Induced Urinary Incontinence And Its Emotional Impact On Female Gymnasts, Nikta Rezakahn Khajeh, Kenneth M. Peters May 2022

Assessing The Prevalence Of Sport-Induced Urinary Incontinence And Its Emotional Impact On Female Gymnasts, Nikta Rezakahn Khajeh, Kenneth M. Peters

Posters

INTRODUCTION
Female gymnasts put strain on their pelvic floor muscles with high impact exercises that increase their susceptibility for stress urinary incontinence (SUI). Moreover, they refrain from seeking medical attention because of embarrassment. This project seeks to quantify the prevalence of SUI in female gymnasts while also influencing conversation about SUI in the gymnastics community to alleviate its stigma. We hypothesize there to be a high prevalence of SUI in young female gymnasts compared to nonathletic females.

Elimination Of Postoperative Narcotics In Infant Robotic Pyeloplasty Using Caudal Anesthesia And A Non-Narcotic Pain Pathway, Kwesi Asantey, Kristen Meier, Zachary Rollins, Andrew B. Banooni, Zachary J. Liss May 2022

Elimination Of Postoperative Narcotics In Infant Robotic Pyeloplasty Using Caudal Anesthesia And A Non-Narcotic Pain Pathway, Kwesi Asantey, Kristen Meier, Zachary Rollins, Andrew B. Banooni, Zachary J. Liss

INTRODUCTION
Research suggests that narcotic pain medications are dramatically overprescribed. We hypothesize that narcotics are unnecessary in the majority of infants for postoperative pain control. In this series, we report our experience combining caudal blocks with a non-narcotic postoperative pathway as a means of completely eliminating postoperative narcotics following infant robotic pyeloplasty.

INTRODUCTION
The TrenGuard™ patient positioning device is a comprehensive patient restraint system for patient positioning when in Trendelenburg position during robotic surgery. This study aims to compare patient migration with the TrenGuard™ patient restraint system (TGPRS) to traditional patient restraint with surgical tape and egg crate foam bolsters (STECFB).

Reducing Post-Operative Emergency Department Visits And Readmissions After Nephrectomy: An Initial Evaluation Of The Music-Kidney Registry, M Butaney, A Johnson, A Bulusu, D Gandham, J Qi, M Jamil, A Patel, S Noyes, J Anema, Michael Levin, Bradley Rosenberg

Conference Presentation Abstracts

Introduction & Objectives: Emergency department (ED) visits and readmissions are often used metrics of quality care provided to surgical patients and important contributors to healthcare costs and utilization. We evaluate post-operative ED visits and readmissions after partial (PN) and radical (RN) nephrectomy in the MUSIC-KIDNEY registry to identify potentially preventable events and develop prevention strategies. Materials & Methods: Data abstractors recorded clinical, radiographic, pathologic, and follow-up data for patients with newly diagnosed clinical T1 renal masses (cT1RM) at 16 MUSIC practices with >90 physicians. All charts associated with 30-day ED visits and readmissions since the inception of MUSIC-KIDNEY (6/2017) were …

Editorial Comment: The lidocaine-releasing intravesical system (LiRIS) is a passive, nonresorbable intravesical system inserted cystoscopically and designed to provide continuous, controlled release of lidocaine into the bladder over a 2-week period, after which it is removed. There was a positive anticipation that this treatment system might provide symptomatic relief for at least a segment of patients with interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS), based on the logic of the rationale and from results in 2 small studies, 1 of which was presented at the American Urological Association annual meeting in 2016,1 showing positive results in patients with Hunner lesions (HL).
