Implementing The Brief Confusion Assessment Method (Bcam) Delirium Screening Tool In An Emergency Department, Carolina Van Dalen
Implementing The Brief Confusion Assessment Method (Bcam) Delirium Screening Tool In An Emergency Department, Carolina Van Dalen
Master's Projects and Capstones
Problem: Persons with delirium have an elevated risk of falls. Thus, falls and delirium are inextricably linked. Both should be routinely screened for older adults.
Context: A 40-bed Emergency Department (ED) in the East San Francisco Bay area of Northern California and the first site among all acute care hospitals in the organization to implement the Brief Confusion Assessment Method (bCAM) delirium scoring tool within the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
Interventions: An EHR toolkit for delirium screening using bCAM was developed, tested, and implemented in the ED.
Measures: The outcome measure was the percentage of patients with a reported fall …

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. If undiagnosed or untreated, ADHD can lead to severe psychosocial issues such as academic failure, substance abuse, unplanned pregnancy, and incarceration. The financial burden in the U.S. from diagnostic errors creates an immense, rising fiscal impact. Early diagnosis and management are crucial to prevent these complications.
Females with ADHD, particularly those with the inattentive subtype, often face diagnostic challenges due to symptom masking and over-compensation. This results in poorer cognitive functioning and self-esteem compared to males with ADHD. ADHD is linked to autonomic nervous …
The Impact Of Telestroke Services On Diagnosis, Patient Outcomes, And Treatment, Dustin Baum
The Impact Of Telestroke Services On Diagnosis, Patient Outcomes, And Treatment, Dustin Baum
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Introduction: In 2011, an estimated 20% of U.S. residents lacked timely access to stroke care. As of 2019, that number plummeted to 4% of patients. A reason for this improved access was the implementation of telestroke services. Telestroke services have utilized remote stroke specialists to help guide local emergency department physicians in reviewing imaging, diagnosing, treating, or transferring patients appropriately.
Purpose: The purpose of this research was to analyze the impact of telestroke implementation in the hospital setting. The study hypothesized the implementation of telestroke services in the hospital setting maintained an accurate stroke diagnosis, decreased inappropriate hospital transfers, reduced …
Using The Electronic Medical Record To Improve Nurse Workload, Sharon C. Le Roux
Using The Electronic Medical Record To Improve Nurse Workload, Sharon C. Le Roux
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Scholarly Projects
Background
Equitable nurse-patient assignments have been associated with improved nurse well-being, patient satisfaction and outcomes. Despite this, in an academic medical center in the southwestern United States, there is no standardized process to create equitable nurse-patient assignments.
Objectives
The aim of this project was to improve inpatient oncology nurse well-being and satisfaction through the implementation of an EMR based nurse-patient assignment tool.
Methods
The IOWA Model-Revised for evidence-based practice was used as the basis for this project. Data collected included demographics, the Well-Being Index Survey, perception of satisfaction with manual workload tool, along with knowledge and use of the …

Pilot Quality Improvement Project To Update Surgeon Preference Cards Of A Community Hospital's Orthopedic Service, Jessica R. Mitchell
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports
Abstract
Implementation of a Pilot Quality Improvement Project to Update Surgeon Preference Cards
of a Community Hospital’s Orthopedic Service
Jessica R. Mitchell
Problem Statement: Over time, surgeons change preferences for surgical equipment, and their preference cards need updating. Failure to update preference cards leads to impaired staff communication, opening of unnecessary equipment, excess waste, increased cost to patients and facilities, and potential threats to patient safety.
Background: Members of the orthopedic surgical team in a community hospital in suburban West Virginia wanted to establish a process to regularly update outdated surgeon preference cards (SPC) for several common orthopedic procedures. The …
