A Comparison Of The Ways In Which The United States And European Nations Treat Chronic Kidney Disease, Robert W. Pokora Iii
A Comparison Of The Ways In Which The United States And European Nations Treat Chronic Kidney Disease, Robert W. Pokora Iii
Senior Theses
European nations and the United States of America have vastly different outcomes in their treatment of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients, specifically when considering survival rate and patient satisfaction level. Unfortunately, no study has ever detailed the reasons why this is the case. This thesis explores and compares the methods by which the United States and European nations treat chronic kidney disease (CKD) and ESRD patients. A literature review aimed to determine factors contributing to the varying outcomes between the two nations, and a Healthcare Provider Survey was crafted and administered to United States healthcare providers in order to determine …

Screening For Social Determinants Of Health In The Primary Care Setting: A Quality Improvement Project, Winifred Ann Shouse
Screening For Social Determinants Of Health In The Primary Care Setting: A Quality Improvement Project, Winifred Ann Shouse
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Capstones
Social determinants of health are the conditions in which individuals are born, age, work, and live that affect health status and outcomes (Rivich et al., 2019). These social and environmental factors can create barriers to patients being able to access and adhere to recommendations for chronic disease management (Gold, et al., 2019). Communication gaps between patients and primary care providers make it challenging for healthcare providers to be completely aware of the financial burdens their patients encounter (Patel et al., 2016). Research supports that identifying and addressing the barriers related to social determinants of health can improve the management of …

How We Debrief: An Interpretive Description Of Social Service Community Workers' Experiences, Andrea C. Krywucky
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
The aim of this research was to understand current practices of debriefing being used or not used in community social service organizations and the presumed frameworks or evidence justifying these practices in London, Ontario. The geographical area under concern has seen an increasing poverty gap, lack of affordable housing, toxic drug crisis, with mental health issues being exasperated by the pandemic. Social service agencies are overwhelmed with caseloads, creating an increase in need of care for frontline workers, as they are the first point of contact for many. This research utilized an interpretive description methodology to explore workers’ experiences and …

Integrating A Functional Assessment Tool For Chronic Pain In Primary Care, Amanda Blanche Parent
College of Nursing and Health Sciences Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Project Publications
Background: Chronic pain is prevalent in the United States. Frequently, rural primary care providers must manage patients’ chronic pain and any associated long-term opioids. Best evidence-based practices recommend, and in some cases state guidelines require, periodic functional assessment, for which the CDC endorses the PEG assessment scale.
Purpose: To integrate the PEG assessment scale into a rural, primary care practice and evaluate sustainability in following best evidence-based practice guidelines.
Methods: A one-year retrospective chart review determined the baseline quality and frequency of functional assessment. A pre-implementation survey was distributed to providers to assess knowledge of opioid prescribing guidelines and their …
Modified Early Warning Scoring (Mews) Versus Epic Deterioration Index (Edi): Battle Royale For Which Has The Best Patient Outcomes In The Inpatient Setting, Dirk A. Church
DNP Projects
Abstract
Background: The increased workload bedside nurses face today requires new tools to assist with the identification of deteriorating patients during hospitalization. The Modified Early Warning Score (MEWS) tool has formed the background of early warning tools. Newer, more complex tools, like Epic’s Deterioration Index (EDI), have been developed to identify patient deterioration earlier. There is lack of evidence in the literature comparing different early warning tools, implementation, and patient outcomes.
Objective: The purpose of the study was to examine models for EWS notification for RRT and patient outcomes between the use of the MEWS and EDI in an adult, …
