Amelogenesis imperfecta (AI) describes a group of genetic conditions affecting the thickness, microstructure, and degree of mineralization of the enamel. Correct diagnosis may be important for managing other serious medical conditions. AI patients are highly susceptible to caries, pain, tooth wear, and loss of the vertical dimension of occlusion, often requiring significant dental treatment throughout their life. Early diagnosis and timely preventative and restorative treatments are crucial to circumvent AI’s psychological, social, and functional sequalae. This case series highlights AI in a 19-year-old patient, with suggestions for further testing and monitoring of the condition.

METHODS: A retrospective study of lichenoid diagnoses in the New York University College of Dentistry Oral Medicine Clinic. Data obtained included patient demographics, prescription medications and pathologic diagnosis. Comparative analysis was performed. RESULTS: A total of 162 oral lichenoid lesion/oral lichen planus patients were identified: The most frequently found medications were anti-hypertensives, anti-hyperlipidemics followed by metformin, proton pump inhibitors and levothyroxine. An Overview Of Maxillofacial Rehabilitation For The General Dentist, Vladimir Frias Dds, Ms
The New York State Dental Journal
The rehabilitation of the maxillofacial patient is mostly carried out in a multi-specialty treatment environment such as a comprehensive cancer center, where multiple specialists are available to treat the numerous concerns and complications that may occur. Many of these patients are seen by the maxillofacial prosthodontist at the same time as the other members of the team and maxillofacial rehabilitation can be treatment planned and performed expediently. Some patients, however, are treated without rehabilitation in mind and go years without appropriate referrals. A knowledge of the multiple types of prostheses available will allow the general practitioner to decide if a …

Background: Antral foreign bodies disrupt normal sinus drainage and can lead to sinusitis and infection. These foreign bodies can arise from many sources including several unique to the dental setting. Case Description: Typical sources like displaced teeth, roots, and root canal filling materials would be iatrogenically introduced at the time of sinus violation. However, we report the unusual case of displaced provisional prosthesis material introduced via a small and almost invisible oroantral fistula several years following extraction. Practical Implications: light of this case, we emphasize the importance of the Valsalva test to diagnose oral antral fistulas following extractions and prior …

Based on the histological features they are of two varieties mucous extravasation and retention cysts. Various treatment modalities including surgery, laser ablation, electrosurgery, marsupialization, cryosurgery, intra-lesional injections and corticosteroids have been reported in literature. In the present case, a mucosal preservation technique was used in conjunction with an 810nm …

Narrow diameter implants and mini-implants are preferred by dentists for restoration of missing teeth on narrow ridges. However, such implants are associated with long-term complications including soft tissue deficiencies. This case report describes a novel approach using a connective tissue graft to resolve peri-implant mucositis. A 66-year old male patient presented with inflammation and abscess in relation to a mini-implant, at the upper left incisor, on the facial aspect. Deficiencies of keratinized tissue and width of attached gingiva were observed. Surgical management was performed using subepithelial connective tissue.
