Abstract

Objective: To assess the accuracy of Dolphin Imaging software in predicting upper jaw profile changes in class II patients treated by extraction and non-extraction.

Methods: The records of 60 Class II div 1 patients were selected; 30 patients treated by extraction of upper first premolar and 30 patients treated by non-extraction. The Pre- and post-treatment lateral cephalometric x-rays of each patient were traced using Dolphin software. The actual hard tissue changes due to treatment were calculated and installed into the prediction module to generate the predicted profile. The soft tissue measurements of the actual post-treatment and predicted profiles were …

Rapid Direct Wax Up For Provisional Crown Fabrication, Debra A. Woo Dds, Ma, Chi Tran Feb 2024

Rapid Direct Wax Up For Provisional Crown Fabrication, Debra A. Woo Dds, Ma, Chi Tran

Pacific Journal of Health

While there are numerous choices for provisionalization, this technique is advantageous when a patient presents with an immediate need for temporization and there is limited time in the schedule for both the patient and provider. Providing an efficient solution using readily available materials that address the esthetics, function and reduction of sensitivity until the patient can be appointed for definitive treatment is illustrated.

Background: Several treatment options are planned for completely edentulous patients rehabilitation which were developed to meet patients desires and requirements, starting from conventional complete denture till implant supported fixed full arch cases. Each technique has its own indication and limitations. Passive fit is an important factor for the long-term success of implant- prosthesis, which necessitate accurate transfer of the implant position. Recently, digital impressions have been introduced in dental implant treatment. By the use of scan body and different optical scanning methods, the position of scan bodies can be transferred to a virtual implant position within the dental arch. Material …

International Arab Journal of Dentistry

BACKGROUND: This report is a presentation of a clinical case that follows the Visagism concept for 2D planning and, CAD (Exo CAD) for 3D desiging along 3D printed diagnostic wax-up model for closure of anterior spacing.

Case presentation: A 24-year-old man presented with midline diastema and anterior spacing 11–13, 21–23 and wants a smile designed. This concern was solved following a smile design (Visagism) planned digitally for diagnostic wax and printing a 3D model. The matrix transfer technique has been used to directly convey planned information from 3D-printed diagnostic wax-up to definitive restorations.

Conclusion: In this day and age, cosmetics …

Shore A Hardness And Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrophotometer Analysis Of Thymol-Modified Maxillofacial Silicone Material, Manar Hussein Ramadhan, Faiza M. Abdul-Ameer

Maaen Journal for Medical Sciences

The longevity of any prosthesis depends on the materials from which it was fabricated, which is why defects in the material properties may reduce the service life of the prosthesis and necessitate its replacement. This study aims to test the influence of incorporating different weight percentages of thymol micro-powder into the maxillofacial silicone matrix on Shore A hardness of the silicone. Room-temperature vulcanised VST-50 maxillofacial silicone was used to prepare the study specimens. Thymol micro-powder was incorporated into the silicone matrix in two percentages (0.75 wt.% and 1 wt.%). 30 specimens were prepared and then subdivided equally into three groups, …

The Back Page Commentary: Let’S Talk About The Real World, Danielle Gehlert Dds

The Journal of the Michigan Dental Association

Dr. Danielle Gehlert, a private practitioner, writes that in the realm of continuing education for dental professionals, there's a need for a shift in focus from idealized, "sexy" cases to real-world patient scenarios. This commentary calls for seminars and programs emphasizing long-term restorative planning, including successes and failures. The practical considerations of patient financial limitations and willingness to engage in dental care must be integral to treatment plans. Real-world cases should reflect the diverse situations dental practitioners encounter and the ethical responsibility to provide affordable and effective treatment options.

Fabrication And Characterization Of Nylon 6 Fiber Via Wet Spinning Method For Application As A Reinforcing Material For A Direct Dental Bridge, Dissa Kirana Wijaya, Nina Djustiana, Yanwar Faza, Arief Cahyanto, Andri Hardiansyah

Makara Journal of Science

Nylon is a biocompatible thermoplastic polymer that is well known for its excellent fracture resistance, making it suitable for fabricating fiber-reinforced composite (FRC)-based dental bridges. FRC is widely used in dentistry. This study aimed to investigate the structural and morphological characteristics of the nylon 6 fiber prepared using five different weights of nylon 6 dissolved in formic acid. The nylon 6 fiber was successfully fabricated via a simple wet spinning method using water as a coagulant. The fiber was then characterized using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, optical microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. FTIR spectroscopy confirmed the presence of nylon …

International Arab Journal of Dentistry

Objective: the assessment of distal cantilever length in implant supported infrastructure by comparing the load to fracture in two different framework esthetic materials (Zirconia and Polyetheretherketone (PEEK)) with two different cantilevers loading distances (10mm, 15mm). Material and methods: 20 frameworks were fabricated and divided into 4 groups (n=5): according to the material type Peek, zirconia, and according to the cantilever loading distance (10), or (15) mm and a load-to-fracture test was used until complete fracture of specimens occurs. Results: The effect of material type and cantilever loading distance were statistically significant for the mean load-to-fracture values (P< 0.05). The Zirconia group failed at higher fracture loads (817 N) than the Peek one (651 N). Frameworks with 10 mm cantilever loading distance failed at higher fracture loads than specimens with 15 mm. Conclusion: Peek is a suitable material for all-on-four framework reconstruction in specific situations, and there is a higher success rate when the distal cantilever length is kept at minimal value (10mm).

Rehabilitation Of A Patient With Single Complete Tooth Supported Overdenture Against The Unmodified Natural Dentition Using Functionally Generated Path Technique- A Case Report, Dr.Akanksha Shinde, Dr.Nilesh Bulbule, Dr.Varun Bhatt, Dr.Gayathri B, Dr.Amit Jagtap

International Arab Journal of Dentistry

Meyer’s proposed chew-in technique also called functionally generated path (FGP) technique, is indicated for the restoration of an edentulous arch that is opposed by natural teeth as it does seem to provide the most accurate method of recording occlusal patterns, also help to minimize the effects of negative factors, and to overcome the deficiencies of articulators [1]. As stated by Rudd and Morrow, this technique is especially suitable for tooth-supported complete dentures, due to inherent stability of tooth-supported record bases helps in recording jaw relationships accurately.

Whenever a single complete denture is opposed by natural dentition, problems observed are abrasion …
