Education Of The Effects Of Obesity Medications And A Stepwise Approach To Mitigate Prevalence And Encourage Lifestyle Medicine For Primary Care Physicians, Kiely M. Curran
Department of Nutrition Student Projects
My Capstone project is an Educational Manual that emphasizes a healthcare team approach to the treatment and management of obesity. The Educational Manual consists of a standardized protocol in management of obesity in patients and a document with summarized references for primary care providers; and a simplified document for patient education. There is a growing interest in the usage of obesity medications. The purpose of my Capstone project is to provide a simplified manual for the primary care provider to reference to make knowledgeable and patient-centered decisions in the prescription of obesity medications and decisions in weight-management. My methodology included …

Noninvasive Continuous Monitoring To Improve Outcome Of Preeclamptic Women Undergoing Spinal Anesthesia For Cesarean Section, Andrea M. Regan, Molly Amin, Josue Brainin Md
Noninvasive Continuous Monitoring To Improve Outcome Of Preeclamptic Women Undergoing Spinal Anesthesia For Cesarean Section, Andrea M. Regan, Molly Amin, Josue Brainin Md
Department of Health Sciences Faculty Proceedings, Presentations, Posters, Speeches, Lectures, etc.
Spinal induced hypotension is a common side effect and occurs in up to 33% of patients. Preeclamptic women have a high risk of severe hypotension related to spinal anesthesia while undergoing cesarean section Hypotension, short or cumulative episodes, increase nausea and vomiting in parturient and can potentially result in fetal acidosis, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy(HIE), and lower Apgar scores. The recommend standard of care is a minimum of five-minute interval blood pressure monitoring which risks late detection and treatment of hypotension. ClearSight® noninvasive continuous hemodynamic monitoring decreases the risk of hypotension-associated complications in mother and fetus and improves maternal nausea and vomiting …
Obstetric Treatment Of Post Dural Puncture Headaches (Pdph): Less Invasive Alternatives To Epidural Blood Patches (Ebp), Andrea M. Regan, Molly Amin, Josue Brainin Md, Sanjeev Patel Md
Obstetric Treatment Of Post Dural Puncture Headaches (Pdph): Less Invasive Alternatives To Epidural Blood Patches (Ebp), Andrea M. Regan, Molly Amin, Josue Brainin Md, Sanjeev Patel Md
Department of Health Sciences Faculty Proceedings, Presentations, Posters, Speeches, Lectures, etc.
Neuraxial labor analgesia for vaginal delivery or cesarean section is performed in more than 71% of women in the United States. Postdural puncture headache(PDPH) is a relatively common complication of neuraxial anesthesia. Epidural blood patch (EBP) is considered the gold standard treatment, and although EBP is a highly effective intervention, it is not without risk. There is growing evidence that less invasive alternative treatments, such as combined use of atropine and neostigmine have effectively relieved PDPH where traditional, conservative methods have failed. The goal is to discover the best method in preventing PDPH and less invasive treatment alternatives compared to …
Comparison Of Survival Rates Between Two Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Protocols And The Association Of Crew Consistency, Stacey L. Parrish, Lori Kupczynski, Pradeep Vanguri
Comparison Of Survival Rates Between Two Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Protocols And The Association Of Crew Consistency, Stacey L. Parrish, Lori Kupczynski, Pradeep Vanguri
Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice
Background: Cardiac arrest is a life-altering event that requires swift, coordinated actions from numerous individuals for patient survival. Although return of spontaneous circulation is the goal of every emergency medical service agency, survival rates continue to be low due to many factors. Many variables are out of direct control of emergency medical service agencies, but some, such as protocol development and personnel training, are well within their power. Purpose: The purpose of this mixed-methods study was to examine the new HP-CPR protocol implemented by a large southeastern urban fire rescue department to see if changes to existing protocol assisted, in …
The Embodiment Of Discovery: An Adapted Framework For Qualitative Analysis Of Lived Experiences, Helen B. Hernandez, Laurie P. Dringus
The Embodiment Of Discovery: An Adapted Framework For Qualitative Analysis Of Lived Experiences, Helen B. Hernandez, Laurie P. Dringus
The Qualitative Report
We reflect on our process of working with an adapted framework as an effective strategy for analyzing and interpreting the results of our qualitative study on the lived experiences of insulin pump trainers. Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) was applied as the overarching research methodology and was encapsulated into a framework adapted from Bonello and Meehan (2019) and from Chong (2019). We describe this framework as the “embodiment of discovery” to posit the researcher’s tangible experience of discovering the meaning of data that also brought transparency to the researcher’s process for data analysis and interpretation. We present challenges the doctoral student …

Cost Outcomes Of Physical Therapist Providers Compared To Primary Care Providers In The Treatment Of Musculoskeletal Patients In A Military Treatment Facility: A Retrospective Chart Review”, Troy E. Mcgill, Debra F. Stern, Morey J. Kolber, John Mcgee
Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the cost of physical therapist (PT) management of patients with musculoskeletal (MSK) disorders to management by traditional primary care managers (PCMs); medical doctors (MDs), doctors of osteopathic medicine (DOs), advanced registered nurse practitioners (ARNPs), and physician assistants (PAs). Methods: This is a retrospective study of electronic medical records using an exploratory, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and quantitative design method. The records of patients with MSK disorders were assessed at an Air Force military medical clinic for 18 months from January 2016 through June 2017. Results: PT management of MSK patients resulted in a …
Image Enhancement Of Cancerous Tissue In Mammography Images, Richard Thomas Richardson
Image Enhancement Of Cancerous Tissue In Mammography Images, Richard Thomas Richardson
CCE Theses and Dissertations
This research presents a framework for enhancing and analyzing time-sequenced mammographic images for detection of cancerous tissue, specifically designed to assist radiologists and physicians with the detection of breast cancer. By using computer aided diagnosis (CAD) systems as a tool to help in the detection of breast cancer in computed tomography (CT) mammography images, previous CT mammography images will enhance the interpretation of the next series of images. The first stage of this dissertation applies image subtraction to images from the same patient over time. Image types are defined as temporal subtraction, dual-energy subtraction, and Digital Database for Screening Mammography …

Seniors With Diabetes-Investigation Of The Impact Of Semantic Auditory Distractions On The Usability Of A Blood Glucose Tracking Mobile Application, Jose A. Rivera Rodriguez
CCE Theses and Dissertations
Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States. With the population rapidly aging, it is expected that 1 out of 3 Americans will have diabetes by 2050. Mobile devices and mobile applications have the potential to contribute to diabetes self-care by allowing users to manage their diabetes by keeping track of their blood glucose levels. Usability is important for systems that help people self-manage conditions such as diabetes. Age and diabetes-related cognitive decline might intensify the impact of usability issues for the users who need these mobile applications the most. As highlighted by usability researchers, the …
