The group with voiding dysfunction had lower maximal and average flow rate, longer voiding time, and larger residual urine amount than the diabetic patients with normal voiding function and the healthy controls. The voiding volume …

Reliability Study And Features Of Falling Tendency When Standing In Unilateral Hemispheric Stroke Patients, Ling-Fu Meng, Shi-Dong Jush, Mei-Hsiang Chen Sep 1999

Reliability Study And Features Of Falling Tendency When Standing In Unilateral Hemispheric Stroke Patients, Ling-Fu Meng, Shi-Dong Jush, Mei-Hsiang Chen

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

”Astasia(inability to stand)” is a popular and immediate result after onset from stroke. Health professionals usually label astasia as ”poor” standing performance. However, few studies substantiate the falling tendency of astasia. The result of inability to stand is to fall toward one specific direction; therefore, this study used ”falling direction” as a medium to analyze the falling tendency of astasia. Three major results were found in this study. Firstly, the measurement used in this study to judge falling direction demonstrated good inter-rater reliability. Two raters' kappa value was .89, .88, .87 respectively(each p value < .001). Secondly, while comparing 5 …

Effects Of An Anterior Ankle-Foot Orthosis On Hemiplegic Gait, Chiung-Ling Chen, Kwok-Tak Yeung, Shin-Han Wu, Ping-Yen Chiang Sep 1998

Effects Of An Anterior Ankle-Foot Orthosis On Hemiplegic Gait, Chiung-Ling Chen, Kwok-Tak Yeung, Shin-Han Wu, Ping-Yen Chiang

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

Ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs) are frequently prescribed for hemiplegia to correct the ankle joint, provide mediolateral stability and improve ambulatory safety.Metal orthoses have gradually been replaced by plastic AFOs because metal orthoses are heavy and have a poor cosmetic appearance. Conventional plastic AFOs are designed in posterior leaf type and fabricated by a lamination or vacuum-forming technique over a positive plaster model of the limb. It takes time to fabricate a plastic AFO, and the effect of correcting for inversion of a hemiplegic foot is not obvious. Wu designed a low-temperature anterior direct molding AFO called an anterior AFO. It is …
