Minimally Invasive vs. Surgical Approach for Treatment of Uterine Fibroids
Student Researcher: Breanna Smith

Abstract
Uterine fibroids are solid neoplasms that are common in women of reproductive age. These neoplasms are often present as benign, however they have an intense impact on the quality of life. Historically treatments involved surgery, however modern medical advancements allow for the option of minimally invasive treatments. Uterine artery embolization (UAE) is a method of using embolic material to cut off blood supply to the fibroid, which shrinks and kills it. More invasive procedures include hysterectomy …

Mycoplasma ovipneumoniae is a globally distributed pathogen that has been associated with pneumonia in both domestic and wild Caprinae. It is closely related to M. hyopneumoniae, a respiratory pathogen of swine that is associated with decreased growth rates of pigs as well as clinical respiratory disease. In order to assess the effects of M. ovipneumoniae on lamb performance, we generated a cohort of lambs free of M. ovipneumoniae by segregation of test negative ewes after lambing, then compared the growth and carcass quality traits of M. ovipneumoniae-free and -colonized lambs from weaning to harvest. Some signs of respiratory disease …

Saving Ligamentum Flavum In One Day Care Microscopic Lumbar Disc Surgery, Mohamed Khattab, Ayman Galhom, Ahmed Elsawaf
Advanced Spine Journal
Background Data Decompression discectomy is a common procedure for treatment of sciatica caused by lumbar disc herniation. Conventional discectomy may damage many important motion segment structures. Microscopic lumbar disc surgery can offer better visualization, magnification and illumination that lead to less invasive disc surgery. Shorter hospital stay, rapid recovery, and decrease the surgical cost is a trend to broaden the types of procedures that can be safely performed as one day care procedure.Purpose: To assess the safety and efficacy of microscopic lumbar discectomy with partial ligamentum flavum preservation in treating L5-S1 lumbar disc herniation as outpatient procedure in one day …
