A Descriptive Study Comparing The Results Of Hearing, Vision, And Developmental Screening Of Children At Preschool And School-Age Levels, Linda Sullivan
A Descriptive Study Comparing The Results Of Hearing, Vision, And Developmental Screening Of Children At Preschool And School-Age Levels, Linda Sullivan
MSN Research Projects
This study was descriptive in nature, designed to compare the results of vision, hearing, and developmental screening of the same group of children at 2, 3, or 4 years of age and subsequently at 5, 6, or 7 years of age. The researcher hypothesized that there would be no significant difference in the result of screening at the two intervals. The audiometer was used to test hearing, the tele binoculars with the Peek-A-Boo series tested vision and the Denver Developmental Screening Test (DDST) tested develop mental levels. Nineteen subjects were located and rescreened, and the results compared to the first …
A Comparison Of Stress Levels And Body Weight In School-Age Children, Melissa Kent
A Comparison Of Stress Levels And Body Weight In School-Age Children, Melissa Kent
MSN Research Projects
This descriptive study was designed to compare stress levels in school-age children according to weight category. The researcher hypothesized that when third-grade students’ scores on the Kent Stress Measurement Tool for children were compared according to weight category (underweight, appropriate weight, overweight), there would be no signifi cant difference. Sixty-four third-grade public school students participated in the study. Height and weight measurements were done, plotted on a growth percentile graph, and a weight category assigned. A researcher-designed question naire, the Kent Stress Management Tool for Children, was administered to the students. The one-way ANOVA was used to analyze the scores. …
Children's Responses To Medically Induced Discrete, Acute Pain, Brenda D. Ballard
Children's Responses To Medically Induced Discrete, Acute Pain, Brenda D. Ballard
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Three experiments were carried out with children in a private office on the measurement of distress caused by allergy treatment injections and on a behavioral technique to alleviate this treatment-induced distress. In Experiment 1 a rating scale to measure observable indices of distress with children receiving injections was developed and its construct validity and reliability determined. In Experiment 2, norms were derived for the sample of children studied and the nature of the expression of distress according to age and sex was examined. In Experiment 3 two treatments for alleviating the treatment-induced distress, (a) sensory information, and (b) systematic reinforcement …
Effect Of The Rubber-Cup Prophylaxis And The Self-Administered Prophylaxis On The Oral Hygiene Performance Of The Pedodontic Patient, Kay Diane Edwards
Effect Of The Rubber-Cup Prophylaxis And The Self-Administered Prophylaxis On The Oral Hygiene Performance Of The Pedodontic Patient, Kay Diane Edwards
Dental Hygiene Theses & Dissertations
The effects of two oral prophylaxis methods on the oral hygiene performance of children (N=l00) between the ages of 8 and 13 years were studied over a three month period. Subjects were randomly selected from a dental hygiene clinic patient population and assigned to one of two prophylaxis groups. Each child's oral hygiene was evaluated using the Patient Hygiene Performance Index prior to and at one month intervals following treatment. Multifactor analysis of variance revealed no significant difference between children's age and the type of prophylaxis received. A significant difference was observed between children ages 8 to 10.5 and 10.6 …
The Use Of Symbolic Modeling On Generalized Imitation In Children, Emmett G. Anderson
The Use Of Symbolic Modeling On Generalized Imitation In Children, Emmett G. Anderson
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Ten experimentally naive children between the ages of six and eight served in three generalized imitation experiments using symbolic models. Subjects were presented videotaped behaviors to imitate via closed circuit television, and their responses were mechanically defined, recorded, and reinforced in an effort to control social influences from the presence of the experimenter. In Experiment 1, imitation of three behaviors was reinforced and imitation of a fourth behavior was never reinforced for four subjects. Two other subjects received noncontingent reinforcement. The following independent variables were tested: (1) the presence and absence of an experimenter, (2) instructions to "Do that," and …
Variability In Test-Retest Of Maximum Duration Of Sustained /A/ In Children, Elena Diane Norwood
Variability In Test-Retest Of Maximum Duration Of Sustained /A/ In Children, Elena Diane Norwood
Dissertations and Theses
Maximum phonation time has been widely utilized as a simple clinical evaluation of the vocal function. Its importance has been emphasized by Van Riper (1954), Westlake and Rutherford (1961), Boone (1971), and other authors. A review of the literature revealed three trials of sustained phonation have been utilized by most researchers to determine maximum duration of phonation. Additionally, the review revealed a lack of test-retest reliability in maximum phonation time in children.
The present study was designed to determine the variability in test-retest of maximum duration of· sustained /a/ among prepubescent male and female children. Eighty subjects, twenty at each …
An Investigation Of The Influence Of Dialectal Interferences On The Nsst Scores Obtained By Portland Black Children, Margaret J. Callahan
An Investigation Of The Influence Of Dialectal Interferences On The Nsst Scores Obtained By Portland Black Children, Margaret J. Callahan
Dissertations and Theses
The primary purpose of this study was to determine if dialectal interference as described by Walter Wolfram (Appendix B) was exhibited by black children in Portland, Oregon when given the NSST by Laura Lee. This author was concerned with syntactical interferences on the expressive portion of this test.
A secondary purpose of this investigation was to provide suggested norms for differentiating children with language deficits from children with language differences.
Seventy black children with normal speech and language were selected from two public schools, a Head Start Center and a day care center. These children were between the ages of …
Nutrition For Children, Emma Gail White
Nutrition For Children, Emma Gail White
Honors Theses
"Nutrition for Children" was conducted among first and second graders of the Cale School District, Cale, Arkansas. Since the school is small, the relation between the teacher and pupil is on an individual basis. This situation produced a flexible environment especially suited for an Honors Project. Reasons and/or goals for the selection of this project included the following:
1. There is a positive relation between good eating habits and good health.
2. A juvenile understanding of the Basic IV Food Groups is necessary to motivate children to eat better.
3. The School Breakfast Program and the School Lunch Program were …
The Relationship Between Functional Articulation Disorders And Self-Monitoring Auditory Discrimination, Geraldine Hahn Allison
The Relationship Between Functional Articulation Disorders And Self-Monitoring Auditory Discrimination, Geraldine Hahn Allison
All Master's Theses
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between articulation disorders and self-monitoring auditory discrimination. In developing this study, 160 children, 80 males and 80 females, from kindergarten through fourth grades, were selected as subjects. They were divided into normal and defective speaking groups based on the results of a speech screening test. An Articulation and Self-Monitoring Test was administered to these children. The results showed their total number of articulation and self-monitoring errors. These error scores were statistically analyzed with other pertinent characteristics of the subjects relative to the study. The tools of analyses were: (1) an …

Modification Of Deviant Behavior By Parents, Jeanne M. Gabourie
All Master's Theses
It is the purpose of this study (1) to determine if a child's deviant social behaviors can be effectively modified by his own parents; and (2) to determine if parents can be trained to use behavior modification techniques in the home.
The Experimental Use Of Operant Procedures With Language Delayed Children, Scott W. Nielsen
The Experimental Use Of Operant Procedures With Language Delayed Children, Scott W. Nielsen
All Master's Theses
It was the purpose of this study: (1) To compare the amount of vocalization produced by each child before the experiment with the amount of vocalization during and after the application of operant conditioning techniques. (2) To compare the variations in the vocalization produced by the children. (3) To explore the possibility of shaping those vocalizations into meaningful words. The study sought to verify the following statement: Utilization of operant conditioning principles will increase the amount and variety of vocalization in language delayed children.

A Study Of The Height And Weight Of Chinese School Children In Some Northern Californian Cities, Lillian Wai-Chuen Chow
A Study Of The Height And Weight Of Chinese School Children In Some Northern Californian Cities, Lillian Wai-Chuen Chow
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
In any study of physical fitness or of nutritional well-being of a group of people, a knowledge of the normal height and weight of that group serves as a valuable guide. Thus, Height-Weight-Age tables have been prepared and are being used in schools, gymnasiums, camps, etc., as a gauge of physical development in children. However, for the group of Chinese school children in the United States very little work has been done to determine the normal height range and weight at the different ages and the normal height-weight-age relationships.
Because of the lack of data on the normal weights and …
