Follow My Lead: Partner Dancing As An Intervention For Couples Therapy, Ashmita Biswas
Follow My Lead: Partner Dancing As An Intervention For Couples Therapy, Ashmita Biswas
Dance/Movement Therapy Theses
Couples seek therapy for various reasons, including managing or navigating conflict, aggression, and infidelity, separation or divorce issues, and navigating psychological disorders or medical issues. Differences in communication style can also contribute to conflicts in couples, and much of this communication happens on a subconscious, non-verbal level. There are various components of partner dancing like,. This thesis proposes utilizing the elements of partner dance, such as nonverbal communication through the roles of lead and follow, use of music for synchronicity, spatial proximity, gesture and posture as interventions in dance/movement therapy with couples. Dance/movement therapy can help individuals be more aware …

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Purpose/Background
Mothers of infants admitted into the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) are at risk for developing anxiety, depression, and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) related to their child’s hospitalization which impedes the mother-infant bonding and attachment process. Research shows that children of mothers suffering from these issues are more likely to develop their own behavioral, emotional and cognitive problems later in life. The purpose of this scoping review is to analyze the literature regarding methods to improve bonding and attachment between NICU patients and their mothers to improve long-term outcomes for the whole family.

The Perceived Impact Of Childbirth Related Ptsd And Maternal Bonding, Sheila Baez
The Perceived Impact Of Childbirth Related Ptsd And Maternal Bonding, Sheila Baez
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractChildbirth has been increasingly viewed as a potentially traumatic event and process impacting both mother and infant. Previous research on childbirth has concentrated on the development of postpartum depression and its impact; research on posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after childbirth has been limited. However, the results of this research study suggested that the development of childbirth-related PTSD may be a far more common phenomenon than previously suggested. Bowlby’s attachment theory and Ainsworth’s further development and expansion of the theory served as a framework which investigated the experiences of 10 biological females, aged 21 and over previously diagnosed with PTSD after …

The Human-Canine Bond: Levels Of Stress Among Military Spouses During Deployments, Angela L. De Leon-Muniz
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Previous research has found that deployment may impact military spouses’ emotional wellbeing and attachment with family members. There remains a critical gap in the literature regarding difference in stress levels between military spouses who own canines and those who do not. The theoretical foundations for this study were Bowlby’s attachment theory and Bowen’s family systems theory. Research questions included exploring the relationships between (a) pet canine ownership, deployment length of time, and military spouses’ stress levels, and (b) pet canine owners’ pet attachment and stress experienced, when their significant others are deployed. The sample comprised 82 spouses with deployed military …

Senior Theses
Kangaroo mother care (KMC), the practice in which mothers hold their infants skin-to-skin against their bare chest, can increase bonding and attachment between mothers and their infants. However, there is not much research on the benefits of KMC within the adolescent or teen mother population (13-19 years old). The purpose of this scoping review was to identify how common KMC is within the teen mother population, determine how KMC varies based on social determinants of health and race/ethnicity within the adolescent mother population, and how KMC impacts adolescent mothers’ maternal attachment and bonding with their infants. Risk For Maternal Infant Bonding Reduction In High Risk Deliveries And The Recovery Phases, Amanda M. Karimi, Corie Vanarsdale Msn
Nursing Undergraduate Work
Bonding is one of the first developmental tasks for infants and is imperative for successful growth. The bonding phase begins in the periods immediately following birth. Complications that inhibit bonding postpartum may delay this process. Breastfeeding barriers, maternal substance abuse, and poor maternal mental health are among the contributing factors to delayed bonding. The purpose of this research study was to answer the question, “What best practiced nursing interventions assist mothers to promote bonding with the newborn after high risk deliveries?” This research review included a sample size of 10 articles which provided a variety of interventions to promote bonding …

Exploring How One’S Primary Financial Conversant Varies By Marital Status, Megan Mccoy, Kenneth J. White, Xianyan Chen
Journal of Financial Therapy
Research has shown communication around finances is essential to relational satisfaction, yet often couples avoid these money talks. In this study, we examined how the financial discussions were impacted by marital status. The findings were surprising. Married people were the least likely to be engaging in money talks with their partner, all of the other participants (e.g., cohabitating, dating, separated) were all engaging their partners at much greater rates in money talks. However, married respondents were talking to their family members, friends, financial professionals, and other professionals about money. These different conversations were analyzed through the lens of social capital …

INTRODUCTION: Separation after preterm birth is a major stressor for infants and parents. Skin-to-skin contact (SSC) is a method of care suitable to use in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) to minimise separation between parents and infants. Less separation leads to increased possibilities for parent-infant interaction, provided that the parents' sleep quality is satisfactory. We aimed to evaluate the effect of continuous SSC on sleep quality and mood in parents of preterm infants borndischarge.
METHODS AND ANALYSIS: A randomised intervention study with two arms-intervention versus standard care. Data will be collected from 50 families. Eligible families will be randomly …
Educating Perinatal Nurses To Promote Bonding Techniques And Increase Support Of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Parents, Kandice Perez
Educating Perinatal Nurses To Promote Bonding Techniques And Increase Support Of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Parents, Kandice Perez
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
NICU treatment team members and perinatal nurses must strive to educate parents and promote parent/infant bonding; failure to do so can result in poor emotional well-being of the parent. Supportive behaviors of nursing staff, and the promotion of bonding techniques inside and outside of the NICU setting can provide aid to parents throughout their NICU journey. However, perinatal nurses are often not provided the necessary knowledge and skills to promote parental bonding, emotional support, empowerment, and education to parents whose infants are unexpectedly admitted to the NICU. Purpose: The purpose of this DNP project was to increase perinatal nurses’ knowledge …
The Associations Among Maternal Resiliency, Perceptions Of Touch, And Reports Of Infant Touch, Lisa D'Agostino
The Associations Among Maternal Resiliency, Perceptions Of Touch, And Reports Of Infant Touch, Lisa D'Agostino
The Pegasus Review: UCF Undergraduate Research Journal
This research study measures how mothers perceive and use touch with their infants, and its association with maternal resiliency, a measure of coping ability. This is important because the inability to cope causes increased stress, which increases negative perceptions of life events, making it even more difficult to cope. In addition, research has yet to uncover whether resiliency is increased in mothers by the same touch and interactions that have been proven to enhance development, attachment, and resiliency in infants. This study asked participants (mothers of infants < 1 year of age) to complete demographic information and a survey composed of three questionnaires: the Mother-Infant Touch Survey, the Physical Contact Assessment, and the Resilience Scale. Although there were no statistically significant correlations among reported perceptions of touch, mother-infant touch, and maternal resiliency, some findings warrant further investigation. Hispanic mothers scored higher on the Resiliency Scale (RS-14) than Non-Hispanic mothers, and a linear trend was detected between mothers in the < 25 years of age group and higher scores on the RS- 14. These findings may influence future research on the correlations between mother-infant touch and maternal coping ability.

The Effect Of Grief On Bonding With A Deaf Child, Gabriela Cardona
The Effect Of Grief On Bonding With A Deaf Child, Gabriela Cardona
Senior Honors Projects
Since hearing screenings for children happen after birth, there is no way for
parents to prepare themselves for having a child with hearing loss and any
lifestyle changes that will follow. Many parents have trouble coping with and
accepting the news of having a deaf or hard-of-hearing child. This diagnosis also
often brings along with it the stress of additional necessary appointments and
decisions. The parent’s idea of a “perfect and ideal” child is gone. Parents need
to grieve the loss of this idea while also tending to their child and giving their
child the opportunities and support needed for …

Masters Theses
The purpose of this study was to examine the neurochemical correlates of group vocal improvisation and to determine the feasibility of the research methods. One group of four participants sang together in two conditions: pre-composed and improvised. Concentrations of plasma oxytocin and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) were measured before and after each singing condition to assess levels of hormones associated with social affiliation, engagement and arousal. Successful implementation of the methodology, including recruitment, data collection, and sample analysis, served as the primary outcome of this study. ACTH concentrations decreased in both conditions, and significantly so in the pre-composed singing condition. Mean …
Assessing Orthodontic-Bracket Impacts On Lip Profile At Bonding And Debonding Stages, Martin Trockel
Assessing Orthodontic-Bracket Impacts On Lip Profile At Bonding And Debonding Stages, Martin Trockel
Student Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Introduction: One factor that contributes greatly to the lower face appearance and orthodontists have the ability to affect is lip profile. Clinical assessment of the lip profile is an important element in the decision of orthodontic treatment planning and in the evaluation of treatment progress and outcome. Three known factors influence the lip profile; the lip thickness, the underlying bone, and the tooth position. The positions and inclinations of the anterior teeth can affect the lip position, but it is unclear whether orthodontic brackets bonded to the labial surface of anterior teeth move the lip position and thereafter change the …

Kangaroo Care And Preterm Infants, Natalie Schindler, Kathryn Lynn
Kangaroo Care And Preterm Infants, Natalie Schindler, Kathryn Lynn
Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
Infants that are born near-term or before they reach their full gestational age of 40 weeks are at risk for facing future health problems and disparities in terms of proper development (Ladewig, London, & Davidson, 2012). This has been a major concern in the medical realm because of the high cost of managing preterm newborns and the complications that can develop. However, kangaroo care may aid in physical growth and cognitive development of these infants. The purpose of this integrative review was to determine if current research shows that kangaroo care has a positive effect on preterm infants in the …
Influence Of Immediate Dentin Sealing On The Bond Strength Of Indirect Bonded Restorations, Alexander Duque
Influence Of Immediate Dentin Sealing On The Bond Strength Of Indirect Bonded Restorations, Alexander Duque
Student Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Introduction: A critical issue and concern that has been documented in dentistry is the complexity of bonding to dentin, a fact that has been referred to as a less reliable technique due to the intrinsic characteristics of the dentin substrate. Effectiveness on dentin bonding is a clinical important approach for indirect bonded restorations in order to achieve a good adhesion that can surpass the test of time. Long-term clinical trials have shown that indirect bonded restorations have an increased risk of failure when using dentin as the major substrate. Consequently, an effort should be made to improve techniques and materials …
Humans' Bonding With Their Companion Dogs: Cardiovascular Benefits During And After Stress, Rebecca A. Campo, Bert N. Uchino
Humans' Bonding With Their Companion Dogs: Cardiovascular Benefits During And After Stress, Rebecca A. Campo, Bert N. Uchino
The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare
This study examined whether having one's companion dog present during and after stress posed similar cardiovascular benefits as having a close friend present, even when the relationship quality for both the companion dog and friend was highly positive. Positive aspects of relationship quality for participants' dog and friend were not associated with one another, suggesting that these relationships exist independently. Additionally, compared to participants with a close friend present, those with their dog present had lower heart rate and diastolic blood pressure (p's < .05) while undergoing the stressors, and tended to have lower heart rate and systolic blood pressure (p's < .09) when recovering from stressors. This study indicates that even when relationship quality is similarly high for companion dogs and friends, dogs may be associated with greater reductions in owners' cardiovascular reactivity to stress, particularly if there is a potential for evaluation apprehension in the human friendships. These findings support the value of the human- companion animal relationship in promoting human welfare.

Bracket Bond Strength Effects Of Incorporation Of Novamin Into An Orthodontic Bonding Resin, Jeffrey Waterhouse
Master's Theses (2009 -)
Despite advances in caries research and the development of protective mechanisms and materials, orthodontic white spot decalcification remains a significant problem. Increased plaque buildup around orthodontic appliances, combined with inadequate hygiene and a susceptible patient, can lead to unesthetic demineralized lesions in enamel.
Relatively new to the arena of caries prevention, NovaMin, a bioactive glass, has shown some promise in areas of remineralization of early lesions, protection against acidic challenge, and has demonstrated antiplaque properties. This study explored a new application of the material, incorporation into an orthodontic bonding composite resin. Objectives of the study were: to determine if the …

research is to explore social life and interaction in sporting space. Despite the growing interest in the field of sport consumption, the experiences of supporters have not been adequately theorised. Studies acknowledging the sport supporter tend to focus supporters as lone individuals or as rigid groups of homogenous individuals that fit into a typology. In this study, I examine the distinct ways in which supporters in small groups interact in the sporting space through mutual relationships and interdependent social networks. Maffesoli (1996) is the original proponent in the study of tribal consumption groups. Maffesoli’s (1996) work has not been used …
