The COVID-19 Pandemic has globally impacted children’s physical activity and mental health outcomes since the transition to remote learning (Štveráková, et al., 2021). Children and adults may encounter negative mental health related consequences, higher stress, and a significant lack of physical activity while in physical and social isolation (Clemente-Suárez, 2022). Gulf War Illness (GWI) is a multi-symptom illness that presents with cognitive disturbances and immune dysregulation and continues to affect over 25% of Gulf War veterans. While soldiers were exposed to several hazards in the Gulf, the prophylactic use of the acetylcholinesterase inhibitor, pyridostigmine bromide (PB) and war-related stress have been identified as chief factors in GWI pathology. As both PB and stress alter acetylcholine (ACh), a critical mediator of cognition and inflammation, the focus of my dissertation work was investigating the lasting effects of PB and stress on peripheral and central cholinergic signaling. Abstract

Background: Serious mental illness (SMI) and substance use disorder (SUD) are two common findings among the majority of those experiencing homelessness in the Stanislaus County.

Local Problem: Emergency shelters typically do not provide mental health services on-site, however, a collaboration between First Behavioral Health Urgent Care Center (FBH) and We Care Program Turlock (WCPT) was established to provide mental health services on-site.

Method: The WCPT case manager as part of a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) quality improvement project implemented Assertive Outreach Model interventions to increase utilization of mental health services and established long-term relationships.

There has been a trend of increased diagnoses of childhood disabilities in the United States. Mothers who care for a child diagnosed with disabilities typically experience increased parental obligations and maternal mental health deficits that often go undiagnosed or untreated, resulting in adverse events. Researchers found that peer mentoring is an effective, nonclinical resource for addressing these mothers’ intervention needs but have not established alternative ways to increase access and delivery.
