Introduction: Clinical trials, although academically accepted as the most effective treatment available for cancer patients, poor accrual to clinical trials remains a significant problem. A clinical trials navigator (CTN) program was piloted where patients and/or their healthcare professionals could request a search and provide a list of potential cancer clinical trials in which a patient may be eligible based on their current status and disease. Objectives: This study examined the outcomes of a pilot program to try to improve clinical trials accrual with a focus on patients at medium to small sized cancer programs. Outcomes examined included patient disposition (referral …

Safety For Community Health Nurses In Rural And Remote Communities: A Literature Review And Research, Kathlyne Pham May 2022

Safety For Community Health Nurses In Rural And Remote Communities: A Literature Review And Research, Kathlyne Pham

Nursing | Senior Theses

Many safety measures devised and implemented are focused on urban hospital settings, which differs from rural and remote settings. Community health nurses are expected to travel and visit their clients’ homes alone, which leaves the nurses vulnerable to their environment. This brings up the question: Does the safety of community health nurses in rural and remote areas have an impact on the care provided in the communities that they serve? After reviewing the six primary literature, three common themes were revealed: lack of boundaries in their personal and professional lives, safety concerns (i.e. isolated geographical locations, workplace violence), and increased …

Experiences Of Critical Care Nurse Managers In Addressing Nurses' Work-Related Stress, Mariana Tsucuneli Jan 2022

Experiences Of Critical Care Nurse Managers In Addressing Nurses' Work-Related Stress, Mariana Tsucuneli

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

AbstractNurses who work in the critical care unit are more likely to experience work-related stress, fatigue, understaffing, undesirable performance outcomes, and compromised workplace safety than general care nurses. Nurse managers in these units possess insights into nurses' stress-inducing challenges, in addition to managerial and administrative perspectives. Yet there is a lack of available knowledge about the experiences of critical care nurse managers in addressing nurses' work-related stress. The purpose of this study was to explore critical care nurse managers’ experiences of potential strategies to effectively address work-related stress among nurses. The job-demand resource model was the theoretical framework for the …

Mentorship And The Transition From Registered Nurse To Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Arcelia Kiss Jan 2022

Mentorship And The Transition From Registered Nurse To Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Arcelia Kiss

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The transition from registered nurse to nurse practitioner (NP) can be challenging and stressful. This problem is particularly true for the novice NP who must adapt to a new scope of practice coupled with increased demands. Recognizing that mentorship can contribute to competency development, employee satisfaction, higher retention rates, and improved patient care outcomes, the goal of this project was to develop a staff education program and manual on mentorship. Knowles’ adult learning theory; Benner’s novice-to-expert framework; and the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation model guided development of the staff education program and mentorship manual. Practice-focused questions guiding the …
