Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences
Background/aim: The measurement of self-efficacy is an important step toward improving chronic disease management, enhancing adherence to treatment, and assessing patients with chronic diseases. The purpose of this study was to assess the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of theSelf-Efficacy for Managing Chronic Disease 6-Item Scale. Materials and methods: In this methodological study, the sample consisted of 211 patients receiving chronic disease care in 2 family health centers in İstanbul, Turkey. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, concurrent validity, Cronbach's alpha, item-total correlation, and test-retest reliability. Results: Most of the sample were women (72%), …

Background/aim: Dyspnea is the subjective feeling of breathing discomfort, which is a significant problem for patients with heart and respiratory disease and also an important determinant of exercise tolerance, quality of life, and mortality in various diseases. Most of the scales are not enough to investigate the multidimensional effects of dyspnea; therefore, the Multidimensional Dyspnea Profile (MDP) was developed and validated in many languages. This study aimed to translate and culturally adapt the MDP into Turkish and investigate the psychometric properties of this adapted version in outpatients with respiratory disease. Materials and methods: The MDP was translated and culturally adapted …

Background/aim: The Profile Fitness Mapping neck questionnaire (ProFitMap-neck) is a reliable and valid assessment instrument for measuring neck-related symptoms and functional limitations in people with neck pain, but a Turkish version of it had not been published. The purpose of this study was to investigate the adaptation, validity, and intrarater reliability of the Turkish version of the ProFitMap-neck. Materials and methods: Two hundred and thirty-five individuals with chronic neck pain were enrolled in the study. Intrarater reliability was assessed by intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Cronbach's alpha was calculated for internal consistency. For concurrent validity, ProFitMap-neck scores were compared with …

Reliability And Validity Of The Turkish Version Of The Vocal Fatigue Index, Seher Şi̇ri̇n, Mehmet Fati̇h Öğüt, Cem Bi̇lgen
Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences
Background/aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the reliability and validity of the Turkish version of the Vocal Fatigue Index (VFI). Materials and methods: The study was conducted with 535 participants including 285 patients with voice disorders and 250 healthy controls. Internal consistency and test-retest reliability were calculated for the reliability analysis. The mean VFI factor scores of both groups were compared. The strength and direction of the relation between VFI and Voice-Related Quality of Life (V-RQOL) measure was evaluated for the validity analysis. Results: The Cronbach's alpha coefficient of VFI factor scores was found to be 0.920 …

Cross-Cultural Adaptation, Reliability And Validity Of The Turkish Version Of Patient-Specific Functional Scale In Patients With Chronic Neck Pain, Gamze Yalçinkaya, Bi̇lge Kara, Mehmet Nuri̇ Arda
Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences
Background/aim: Current clinical guidelines recommend to use both clinical and self-reported measurements for evaluation of chronic neck pain. Among the self-reported outcomes, Neck disability index and patient-specific functional scale are the most widely used and recommended instruments. The purpose of our study was to determine the test-retest reliability and validity of patient-specific functional scale which was not validated in Turkish language previously. Materials and methods: Translation and adaptation process had conducted according to the Beaton et al. Sociodemographic data, Turkish version of patient-specific functional scale and neck disability index were recorded at the initial assessment. Retest assessment was produced for …
