Thalamocortical Network Interruption: A Fresh View For Migraine Symptoms, Hayrunni̇sa Bolay Belen
Thalamocortical Network Interruption: A Fresh View For Migraine Symptoms, Hayrunni̇sa Bolay Belen
Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences
Migraine is a multifaceted brain disorder where multisensory disturbances are associated with headache. Yet sensory symptoms are conventionally justified by dysfunctions confined to the cerebral cortex, a perspective through the complex interplay of thalamocortical network would provide the entire picture, more pertinent to the central sensory processing. It is important to consider thalamus as a hub that integrates multiple domains via extensive connections among anatomically and functionally separate cortical areas. Accordingly, cortical spreading depression (CSD), implicated in migraine pathophysiology can be seen as a tool to disconnect thalamocortical network by functionally eliminating cerebral cortex. Hence, including thalamic reticular nucleus and …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
This study aimed to investigate the treatment outcomes of topical application of boric acid, boron-doped gel, and ozonated olive oil in cases of Microsporum canis -induced dermatophytosis. Furthermore, the outcomes were compared to those of terbinafine administration. We included 39 female Wistar albino rats weighing 200-250 g and created an M. canis-infected area on the skin of their backs. The rats were clinically scored on days 0, 7, 14, 21, and 28 and underwent histopathological evaluation. All the treated groups demonstrated significantly lower clinical scores than the control group (P < 0.05). Fewer inflammation cells were observed in the samples of groups treated with 3% boric acid and sodium pentaborate pentahydrate gel than in those of the control group. According to the histopathological evaluation, the groups treated with 3% boric acid and sodium pentaborate pentahydrate gel were statistically different from the control and other treatment groups (P < 0.05). Our results indicated that treatment with 3% boric acid and sodium pentaborate gel was adequate in resolving M. canis -induced infection in rats. Therefore, gels containing 3% boric acid and sodium pentaborate pentahydrate may be alternatives to antifungal agents such as terbinafine by ensuring easy, reliable, inexpensive, and effective treatment modalities.

This study aimed to determine the slaughter and carcass characteristics of five different meat-type lambs reared under intensive husbandry conditions. For this purpose, a total of 202 lambs-Kıvırcık (K, n = 51), Karacabey Merino (KM, n = 47), Ramlıç (R, n = 28), German Black-Head Mutton × Kıvırcık (GBK, n = 49), and Hampshire Down × Merino crossbreed (HM, n = 27)-were used to evaluate rearing performance. At the end of the rearing period, 10 male lambs of each breed were randomly selected to investigate slaughter and carcass characteristics. All lambs were housed in a single flock until the slaughtering …

For the trial, 54 Bovans White laying hens were used at 95 weeks of age and were housed in groups of three birds per cage. A completely randomized design was used with a factorial scheme of treatments 2 × 3 (rations with two energy densities × three thermal environments). Corn-soybean meal based diets with similar composition, differing only in energy levels, were obtained with soybean oil inclusion (2750 kcal and 3250 kcal metabolizable energy (ME)). Climate-controlled rooms were used to mimic a thermoneutral environment (TE) (average temperature of 24.3 °C and relative humidity of 62.3%), a hot environment (HE) (average …
