Actinobacillus suis is considered an opportunistic pathogen in swine that can cause disease in animals of all ages, especially in high health status herds. The objective of this study was to developed an indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) using boiled whole cell antigen for the detection of antibody against A. suis. The selected herd has clinical problems associated with A. suis infection. In addition, this herd was not received any Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae (APP) vaccine nor diagnosed with APP infection before the study. Single fixed-time AI is the breeding protocol inseminating the sows once with either fresh or frozen-thawed (FT) semen at fixed time after ovulation induction without estrus detection. To develop the success single fixed-time AI protocol in Thailand, factors affecting the efficacy of single fixed-time AI were evaluated. Additionally, we also evaluated the effect of using lecithin in cryopreservation extender on FT semen qualities in order to find the possibility to perform single fixed-time AI using sperm preserved in lecithin based extender. Influenza A virus causes respiratory disease in many species such as birds, horses, pigs, dogs and cats as well as humans. This thesis consists of 5 phases. Phases 1 was monitoring of canine influenza virus infection in Thailand. Phase 2 was determining the intravenous pathogenicity index of Thai canine influenza virus. Phase 3, 4 and 5 were investigating the pathogenicity of canine influenza viruses in dogs, chickens and guinea pigs, respectivly. Bulk tank milk somatic cell count (BTM SCC) is worldwide acceptable as an indicator of subclinical mastitis and milk quality at the farm level. Several countries determine the BTM SCC level for quality control and milk pricing. In Thailand, BTM SCC standard is set at 500,000 cells/ml and premium milk quality is set at less than 100,000 cells/ml. Vibrio parahaemolyticus is the leading cause of seafood borne gastroenteritis in many countries including Thailand. It is a gram-negative, halophilic bacterium which was normally found in estuarine environment and seafood. The infection usually occurred from consuming raw, inadequate cooked, or cross-contaminated seafood. Risk assessment is a scientific tool to evaluate health hazard from V. parahaemolyticus infection. Brachycephalic airway obstruction syndrome (BAOS) is an anatomical abnormality of upper airway commonly found in brachycephalic breeds leading to clinical signs and physical capacity impairment. The purposes of this study were to compare clinical signs and physical capacity in French bulldogs between before and after surgical correction using questionnaire and 6-minute walk test (6-MWT). Twenty-seven French bulldogs were enrolled in this study and divided into normal group (n=7) and BAOS group (n=20). The emergence of DTMUV has been observed in layer and breeder duck farms in China since 2010 and in layer and broiler duck farms in Thailand since 2013. Feline morbillivirus (FeMV), a relatively new virus, has been discovered in domestic cats and associated with kidney diseases since 2012 in Hong Kong. The FeMV study gained widely attentions in many countries whereas the pathogenesis remains elusive. These studies aimed to provide the FeMV knowledge in Thai domestic cat by performing the genetic-based, serological-based and pathological-based studies of FeMV-infected in Thai cats. A total of 835 fecal samples collected from client-owned and community cats between 2014 and 2016 were subjected to wet fecal smear and/or PBS-ethyl acetate and/or ZnSO4 centrifugal flotation. Ancylostoma spp. was the most common, 28.5%, followed by 6.7% Toxocara spp., 5.3% Cystoisospora spp., 4.4% Platynosomum fastosum, 2.5% Taenia taeniaeformis, 1.7% Strongyloides spp., 1.4% Spirometra spp., 1.3% Dipylidium caninum, 0.1% Eucoleus aerophilus and 0.1% Opisthorchis-like trematode egg. For retroviruses, FeLV and FIV were positive 7.1% (19/269) and 5.2% (14/269), respectively, without association with endoparasitic infection. This study aimed to determine the occurrence, geographical distribution and genetic diversity of tick and mosquito-borne protozoa and rickettsia in buffaloes by the PCR – sequencing approach. A total of 456 blood samples were collected in provinces of Thailand including Mukdahan, Uthai Thani, Lampang, Amnat Charoen, Nong Bua Lamphu, Phatthalung, Surin and Chachoengsao. DNA was extracted from buffalo blood and screened for the presence of pathogens, followed by sequencing. The results indicated that the overall prevalence of rickettsia, protozoa, and malaria were 41%, 25.4%, and 12.9% respectively. Addition of Equex STM paste to semen freezing medium provides beneficial effects on cryopreserved dog sperm. Canine parvovirus (CPV-2) emerged and caused severe enteritis in dogs since the 1970s. The last variant, CPV-2c is considered as the high virulent strain and spread ubiquitous worldwide. This strain was early detected in Vietnam since 2002, but the whole genome is still fragmentary. In this study, we attempted to gain the whole genome of CPV-2c from the Vietnamese infected dogs as the first report of the full-length CPV-2c sequence originated from Asia. Current approach for diabetes treatment remained several adverse events varied from gastrointestinal to life-threatening symptoms. Regenerative therapy regarding Edmonton protocol has been facing serious limitations involving protocol efficiency and safety. This led to the study for alternative insulin-producing cell (IPC) resource and transplantation platform. In this study, evaluation of encapsulated human dental pulp stem cell (hDPSC)-derived IPCs (hDPSC-IPCs) by alginate (ALG) and pluronic F127-coated alginate (ALGPA) was performed. The results showed that ALG and ALGPA preserved hDPSC viability and allowed glucose and insulin diffusion in and out. Haemosporidioses in domestic chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus) are not only widely distribute but causing high mortality and non-specific symptoms. The multiplex PCR assay developed in this study can concurrently detect and differentiate four haemosporidian parasites Leucocytozoon caulleryi, Leucocytozoon sabrazesi, Plasmodium juxtanucleare, and Plasmodium gallinaceum. Comparing to microscopic examination performed in parallel on 157 samples, multiplex PCR assay exhibited significantly higher detection rate in diagnosis of haemosporidians (p = 0.000). A novel multiplex PCR (mPCR) was developed to identify and differentiate malaria parasite (Plasmodium caprae), and two piroplasms (Babesia bigemina and Theileria luwenshuni) in Thai goats. Three pairs of primer were designed to be species-specific, targeting cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene in mitochondria. Plasmids containing each parasite’s DNA was serially diluted to evaluate the sensitivity of singleplex and mPCR assays. The specificity of the primer sets was confirmed by testing for amplification from DNA of each pathogen and other related hemoparasites. Aeromonas veronii outbreaks in tilapia farming caused relatively high mortality. Moreover, it was resistant to many kinds of antimicrobial used in Thailand aquaculture. According to no CLSI standard, the determination of antimicrobial efficacy has been limited phenotypically; the genomics study is required. This research aims to analyze the resistome of A. veronii isolated from diseased Tilapia in Chainat, Nong Khai and Uttaradit province, Thailand. Beta-cardiotoxin (ß-CTX), a novel protein isolated from the King cobra (Ophiophagus hannah) venom has previously been proposed as a beta-blocker candidate. However, cellular mechanisms of ß-CTX on cardiomyocyte is unknown. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of ß-CTX on isolated rat cardiomyocyte function and the cardiac myofibrillar activity, and to explore involvement of ß-adrenergic receptor (ß-AR) signaling pathway. ß-CTX was isolated and purified using two-step chromatographic method and confirmed by N-terminal sequencer.
